Twelve - The Truth

Violet Mae POV

"So how was it?" Olivia asks me Monday at school. I had told her about the date as soon as he asked me, and she waited all weekend to ask me.

I smile back. "It was really good. Perfect even. I had a lot of fun."

"Can I have details?"

"Nope."

"Dangit. I wanted to know what to expect on my first date."

Nico looks over at her out of the corner of his eye, the look on his face unreadable, but I know that he knows she wants a magical first date. I'm sure he plans on giving to to her some day, but he knows she's scared to date.

Olivia used to be eager for her first boyfriend, her first kiss, first everything. But when I started dating Jacob and he started making comments about my weight in front of my other friends, the friend group we shared with Rachel, Olivia got scared.

She didn't want a relationship like what we had. Even after she and Nico left that friend group, she continued to worry about that.

To this day, she's terrified to ask anyone out or accept their proposal to go out with them, because she's scared she'll meet a guy like that. She's strong, stronger than me, and gives good advice, but has a hard time solving her own conflict.

Nico says something to her, but I'm not sure what because my attention shifts to Shawn, who sits right beside me.

"Hey."

He looks kind of surprised that I seemed so happy that he was here, but smiled back and said, "Hey. What's up?"

"Not much. Just watching my two best friends."

He looks at Olive and Nico, who are in a deep-looking conversation, before looking back at me. "Weird but okay."

"It's not in a weird way! They're literally sitting right in front of me. It's hard to look anywhere else but at them."

"You're looking at me."

"Because I'm talking to you. Why? Do you want me to look away so it seems I'm not paying attention to a word you're saying?"

"No, I like that you're looking at me." He gets closer and smiles when our noses almost touch. "I like when you look at me. It makes me happy."

His smile is contagious. "Oh really?"

He chuckles and moved forward just a hair and our noses touch. "You're beautiful when you smile." He then pulls away to see the blush coating my cheeks. "And even more so when you blush."

The sound on someone clearing their throat loudly behind us makes me suddenly aware of our surroundings.

We both turn to see Rachel standing there, hands on her hips. "Excuse me!"

"What?" I ask, not knowing what she wants.

She looks at me and scoffs before looking at Shawn. "You said you would sit at my table today not with this..." She looks me up and down. "Rat."
