Luke's POV:
i hovered over the call button but my fingers made the decision before my mind did and pressed it.one ring.
two rings.
three rings.
crackling could be heard on the other end as the line connected. I was sat nervously on my couch, waiting for her to answer the phone. "h-hello?" I heard her sniffle on the other line. "um, hi." I managed to croak out. my voice was hoarse from crying, and by the sounds of it, so was hers.
I just don't understand; we were just two strangers that happened to meet in a bar, how could we have this affect on each other? stuff like this didn't happen everyday. I mean, we barely knew each other and we were already crying over one another. "what made you call?" she squeaked. "um, well, I don't really know, that's the thing."
"oh."
"yeah." I didn't know what else to say. so I decided to mention her boyfriend. "so, how's your boyfriend?"
"Luke."
"yeah?"
"um, I actually don't have one."
"wait, what? you dumped him?" i was getting excited now. "no, I never had one."
"you what?" I was angry. really fucking angry. she lied, again. what was her problem? "well...go on. I wanna hear this bullshit."
"please, Luke, it's not like, well, I can't really explain."
"yeah, sorry of course not. you can never tell the fucking truth, can you? Marnie, look just tell me." I said, softening my tone when I heard how sorry she sounded. "Luke, it's not that simple."
"why?"
"I...i just can't say, OK?" she rambled, getting defensive. "well, I hope you know that you're all I've been thinking about these past few days."
"really?" she sounded like she was smiling now, underneath those sniffs and whimpers. I took a deep breath, hoping she felt the same. "yeah." I breathed out."same, Luke. I don't know what it is but I don't need you right now yet I desperately want you."
"really?"
"mmhmm," she giggled the cutest giggle I've ever heard. "well, Marnie, we should meet up again,"
"yeah, that would be great." I could almost hear her smile from the other end of the line.Marnie's POV:
I pressed the end call button and locked my phone. I placed it down on the table again and sat up in my seat. I totally forgot about the film that was on. all I could think about was Luke.he said I was all he thought about. he actually said that to me. I just couldn't believe it. he must be worth something.
I got up and decided to actually get changed. I trudged next door to my room and swung open the door. the floorboards creaked under my slippered toes as I padded to the wardrobe where I pulled out an oversized knitted sweater that was black with pink specs and some black leggings. I pulled on some ugg boots and started walking to the local convenience store.
it took about five minutes to get there and I just bought some Pepsi and a sandwich and some gum because I really couldn't be bothered to make my own lunch. if convenience stores aren't for being convenient then what are they for, eh?
as I walked back, I was playing 2048 which was my new game addiction. I loved how you had to work things out but in the end, they all fit together. it kind of made me satisfied when I actually got it. as I was playing, a text popped at the top of my screen, from Luke.
Luke: what day is good for you? is tomorrow ok?
Marnie: yeah. got the whole week off work so should be good :P
Luke: ok honey pie ;)
Marnie: ew.
