I know they probably didn't know what an aneurysm is during that time, but for the sake of Cedric's Defensive Magic class being an overwhelming bunch, we can pretend.
ALso this comes from a very lengthy AU of mine, which is a rewrite of the entire series, and one of the biggest points in it is where the Three Fairies offer him a teaching job at Royal Prep. He refuses at first (for exactly four episodes) before giving in and becoming the teacher for the Defensive Magic class.
