Thanksgiving was coming up and along with it came a break from academic life for a week, so Rory was getting ready to go to Stars Hollow for the week. Her Dad and Gigi were also heading to Hartford for the week so she would be able to see them then as well. Rory was staring into her closet contemplating what she needed to bring for the week when her cell rang, Rory quickly answered without checking the caller id.

"Hello."

"Is that how you always answer the phone, young lady?"

"Hi Grandma, sorry I'm just packing and didn't have a chance to check the caller id."

"I shall ignore that for now. I'm glad that I caught you while you are still packing. I'd like it if you came to dinner on Friday, so now you will have time to pack something suitable."

"Not that I don't want to see you, because I do Grandma, but does it have to be a Friday night dinner? I thought those stopped with the end of Yale."

"How about we just have one last one for nostalgia's sake?"

"Fine Grandma, I will pack something for Friday night dinner. I should be home on Friday afternoon, so 6:30 for before dinner drinks?"

"Perfect. We shall see you then." Emily chirped and then hung up quickly, probably for fear of Rory changing her mind.

On Friday afternoon Rory was pushing her way into her house, she was glad to be home she thought as she met Paul Anka at the door with a head pat in exchange for his tail wagging. Rory was surprised to see no one at home and quickly pulled her cell out to call her Mom as she sat down on her bed.

"Hey Mom?"

"Hey Kid, what time will you get home?"

"I'm at home Mom, Paul Anka was my welcoming committee."

"No, you said you weren't going to get home until at least 1:30pm!"

"Mom, it's after 2."

"It can't be, oh would you look at that, so it is. Do you want to meet in Luke's in 15 mins?"

"Yes, I'm going to put some laundry on and then I'll meet you there."

"Okay, see you kid."

Rory fell back onto her bed with a sigh as she hung up, taking a deep breath and relaxing as the comforting smell of home started to envelope her.

As Rory walked into Luke's there was no sign of her Mom yet, but she was quickly bombarded by well wishers asking how Harvard was and talking about how much they missed her around Stars Hollow, especially as she hadn't been home since she started school.

"Alright everyone give her some room to breathe!" Luke shouted, pushing his way through the townsfolk.

"Hi Luke," Rory said, as she was pulled into him for a brisk hug, in a very non-Luke like manner.

"Meeting your Mom? Want your usual or just coffee?"

"Yep, Mom should be here any minute. Can I get coffee and pie? I have dinner at Adolf and Ava's later."

"Sure, apple or cherry?"

"A slice of each." Rory requested with slight puppy dog eyes.

"I should have known," Luke muttered as he walked away to get started on her order just as the door opened signalling Lorelai's arrival.

"Coffee please Luke! Rory's home! She should be here any minute." Lorelai announced excitedly to the entire diner.

"Rory's over here." Rory shouted from her spot at their usual table, standing up to greet her mother in the inevitable hug.
