Rory looked around the jet at the people noisily conversing and playing games, poker and i never, she was happy to stay in her position on the corner of the couch with a book observing it all. She still wasn't entirely sure how she had ended up agreeing to be here at all.

Flashback

"Hey Leigh?" Colin asked apprehensively.

"Yeah Colin?" Rory responded, picking up on his tone she stopped what she was doing and moved all of her focus onto her boyfriend. It was still weird when she realized he was finally hers.

"The guys and I kind of have a tradition."

"A tradition?"

"Yes, every year for New Year's Eve we go away and visit a new place. We have been to New York, Sydney, Miami, LA, Vancouver all so far."

"Okay, so you are warning me that you will be gone for New Year's? That's okay, I'm not going to be one of those clingy girlfriends that demands to know where you are every moment. I trust you. Where are you guys headed this year or is that a secret?"

"No that's not what I'm saying, I'm trying, badly, to ask if you want to come with me, come spend New Years with me and a group of my friends?"

"Really, you want me to come?" Rory asked, uncertainly. Colin nodded affirmatively. "I wouldn't be in the way?" She continued.

"Of course not, you would only make it better. I'm not sure I could actually leave you to go away anyway."

"So where are you going?"

"We are thinking of going to Edinburgh this year, they do a giant Hogmanay celebration every year, and none of us have ever been."

"Scotland?"

"Yep, so what do you think?" Colin asked nervously.

Rory looked speculatively at her boyfriend, he looked nervous, slightly pale, wringing his hands, trying not to bite on his lip. "I think that I would like to go away with you. Just one condition though?"

"Anything," Colin replied earnestly, moving closer to take her in his arms.

"We are not sharing a hotel suite or any kind of accommodation with Finn!" Rory answered, while giggling.

"Of course not," Colin agreed as he lowered his head to kiss her.

Flashback ended

So here she was, on a private jet surrounded by Colin's Yale and boarding school friends. They had ended up deciding to invite Tristan along as well. He was going crazy in Hartford and the only reason he hadn't been firmly ensconced in Colin's group when he was younger was simply due to his stint in Military school, so he fit in with them all perfectly, while Rory was more apprehensive.

"You okay?" Stephanie asked as she sat down beside Rory breathlessly.

"Yep, I'm good. What about you?" Rory asked as she surveyed the slightly dishevelled beautiful woman.

"I just needed to escape before that game changed to another one of their ridiculous games of truth and dare."

"Ah yes, I can see how anyone would need to escape that." Rory answered, nodding in agreement with Stephanie.

"So what's the deal with you and Colin's friend?" Stephanie asked as she averted her eyes slightly.

"Tristan?" Rory asked surprised by the question, but then as she thought about it she wondered why she was surprised, if anything she should be shocked it took four hours for the question to emerge. Tristan was attractive fresh meat being added to what appeared to be a close knit group, whose new additions only normally occurred when they were already attached to someone within the group.
