As the new year began everyone headed back to their real-life jobs, while Rory and Colin headed back to Cambridge. They quickly fell back into their previous routine, with the addition of Stephanie to the group. Her and Tristan were trying a casual "no-strings' arrangement, which was funny, as from what Rory could tell both of them were acting as though there were strings involved, just neither of them wanted to be the one to put themselves out there.
Even though classes didn't start back until the end of January, the group had all returned to Cambridge, Doyle to work, Rory to help at the firm, Paris and Tristan needed to study, and Colin just didn't want to be stuck in Hartford alone and at his fathers mercy. The few relaxed weeks had allowed Rory and Colin to get more comfortable in the relationship in their own spaces. While Rory had the better apartment, they had learned to appreciate the lack of roommates at Colin's, no one needs to listen to Paris complain about sex noises over breakfast, which only needed to happen once for them to know enough to avoid it. Although it did make Colin feel pretty smug when Paris revealed that in all her years living with Rory this was the first time her being noisy had been an issue.
Flashback
"Paris you don't have to listen to us!"
"It's not like you gave us much choice about that."
"We were on the other side of the apartment, it's not like we were loud intentionally. And I severely doubt that you could actually hear us clearly."
"'Harder Colin, Harder. Right there, Yes, Fuck me.' need I say more?" Paris mocked, raising her eyebrow pointedly at Rory.
"It's my house, what would you have me do?" Rory answered in a resigned tone, the kind garnered from years of arguing with Paris.
"Rory our bedrooms used to have paper thin walls between them and we could manage to keep it quiet, I shouldn't need to hear them now when we have multiple rooms between them. Have you forgotten how to control yourself?"
As soon as Paris finished that sentence Rory flushed bright red with embarrassment.
"Oh my God! You can't control yourself, are you telling me McCrae is that good?" Paris asked. Rory didn't answer and just looked pleadingly at Colin for help, unfortunately for her, he was enjoying the turn that the conversation had taken. Taking pity on his girlfriend Colin jumped in.
"Do you need me to give Doyle some tips?" Colin asked, looking at Rory to convey that she would owe him big time for this.
"HEY! Leave me out of this!" Doyle exclaimed.
"Doyle doesn't need any tips from you Colin. Maybe Rory needs the tips to teach her how to bite her tongue." Paris defended her other half.
"Paris, to remind you yet again, Rory owns this place and lets you live here at a greatly reduced rate, she doesn't need to have roommates, so maybe pissing your landlord off about their sex life is not the smartest move you have ever made." Colin finished with a determined stare at Paris, before he walked slowly out of the room, leading Rory by the hand, to show that the argument with Paris wasn't worth any more of their time.
As soon as Rory and Colin had made it back into Rory's room they had collapsed onto the bed in a fit of laughter.
Flashback over.
It was the weekend before classes started back up again and the group were heading out for a last night before they had to get serious again. Stephanie had come up to visit for the weekend as well and was staying at Tristan's place, but she had agreed to come over to Rory's for them to all get ready there together. It gave her an opportunity to get to know Paris better, in what would hopefully be a less intense meeting, and also gave Rory a chance to try and interrogate her about her and Tristan's relationship.
