KAREEM'S POV
"You know I could actually castrate you for what you did and no one would ask me a question. "Jamila threatened pointing a cooking spoon at me.
"Instead of a thank you I'm getting threats?"I asked.
"Yes because you went behind my back again."Jamila whisper yelled because Nuru was in the next room watching cartoons.
"Yeah but I did it for a good reason. Why are you mad at me anyway? You made a sale and new friends. If you ask me, I did you a huge favor. You should be kissing the ground I walk on right now."I retorted.
I definitely should not have said that because Jamila looked livid. She threw the spoon at me and I ducked just in time before it hit me.
"You almost hit me."I shouted glaring at her.
"I wish I had. Now go get your niece, it's time for supper."Jamila demanded turning away to concentrate on her food.
Grumbling to myself I left the kitchen and walked into the living room to get Nuru.
"Munchkin, it's time for supper."I announced standing at the door.
"Five more minutes."She requested with a pouty face.
"Not tonight baby, mama is already in a bad mood. Pause it and you'll continue after we eat."I replied.
She must have heard the seriousness in my voice because she did exactly what I asked. She walked past me and into the kitchen.
Jamila was mad at me for giving Diana her number but I refused to feel guilty. I was only trying to help and it worked because according to Diana they made a huge order for the bookcafe and for personal consumption. They also had a good chat and got to know each other better. For me it was a win on all sides and for that I refused to feel guilty.
"Uncle why are you all dressed up?"Nuru asked looking at me once we all settled down to eat.
"Because your uncle is going to hang out with his friends tonight."I replied.
"Can I come? It's Friday so I don't have a bedtime"Nuru requested.
"Maybe next time munchkin, tonight only boys are allowed."I replied.
It was the only excuse I could come up with that she would accept. She looked disappointed but shrugged in acceptance nonetheless. Supper was awkward due to the tension between Jamila and I so I was definitely glad when it was over. Jamila didn't need help cleaning up so I just said my goodbyes to Nuru and left.
"Kareem wait!"Jamila yelled after me just as I was walking out the door.
I stopped and waited for her to say her piece. I just hopped it wasn't any more bashing.
"I just wanted to say thank you for what you did. I know you're just looking out for me and even though you did it by going behind my back I still appreciate it."She said and I smiled.
"You're welcome sis, goodnight. I'll see you tomorrow."I replied.
"Goodnight, be safe. And by the way, I really like Diana. Hold onto this one."She added before walking back into the house.
Looks like Diana had my sisters approval and to me that was the only opinion mattered to me. Smiling to myself I left the building and got into my car.
It was Fabian's birthday and we were going clubbing. I wasn't going to go but he was one of my few true friends and he'd easily convinced me. I just knew that I would be bored out of my mind since I wouldn't be drinking. It was definitely one of those times I wished I still drunk, it would have made the night easier to bear. I didn't regret getting clean, it was definitely the right thing to do but sometimes I missed the buzz that came with being high.
