Eddy didn't know where to go to lunch that day.

He didn't talk to anyone on Sunday.

It was Monday, which was the worst day to go eat in the bathrooms or something.

But before he could really decide, Ed found him and ran over to him.

"Eddy! I found you!"

"Yeah... great."

"Let's go find Double D!"

Ed flailed his arms around in the hall excitedly.

"Nah... you go find Double D. I'm sure he'll enjoy your company."

Ed's smile faded.

"Where are you going, Eddy?"

"I don't know."

Ed stiffly placed his hand on Eddy's shoulder.

"Then come eat with us!"

"No."

"Oh."

Eddy gently shook him off.

"I'm not gonna eat today."

He walked backward, watching Ed's face dim the more steps he took.

He finally turned around, leaving out through the doors that lead to outside.

He stood on the steps for a moment before sitting down.

He could really use a cigarette about now...

He looked down at the ground, following the grooves with his eyes.

He didn't know what else to do.

He really just put himself outside.

With no food.

And nothing else.

He had his phone, but he didn't want it.

His mind was too loud.

All he knew is that he didn't want to stay here.

He started walking out to where his car was since he drove to school today.

But then he heard the screeching of the front doors.

He hoped it wasn't the principal or anything.

That was the last thing he wanted.

He also hoped it wasn't Jimmy or Ed.

He just hoped it was his imagination.

"Eddy,"

The voice said it with a normal tone.

It wasn't raised, or hushed.

They knew Eddy would be listening.

And for some reason, he stopped.

He stopped walking.

He didn't turn around.

Eddy heard footsteps come closer to him.

"Ed told me you were out here."

Eddy's heart pounded.

"God—why?"

"He doesn't know... Eddy. He only recognizes routine, and you ruined it."

Double D's words hurt, the way he used them.

He knew it wasn't intentional and that he was just explaining, but it still hurt.

"Okay."

Edd sighed.

They stayed quiet for a moment.

Eddy picked his head up more.

Double D finally groaned abruptly, jerking his arms down in frustration.

"I'm not stupid Eddy!"

Edd definitely had built-up rage from Saturday.

Eddy could tell.

"I know."

"I know  you know, but you can't trust me?" Edd hissed.

Eddy rubbed his wrist.

"It's not that I don't trust you..."

Double D sighed, folding his arms.

"I'm sorry—just... over the years..."

Eddy moved his head toward him slowly, his brow raised in interest.

"We have... been hanging out more... just me and you. Of course, Ed is included sometimes, we are a trio... but—"

Eddy watched him.

Edd's expression was one of concern, more than anything.

"I just feel like me and you have... grown closer. I feel like I'm closer to you than Ed or... anyone here. Even my parents, Eddy."

Eddy's shoulders relaxed.

"I thought that... maybe you felt the same. I've shared such personal things with you because... I—I trust you. But maybe I hadn't earned your trust fully for personal things like that. I should've... realized."

His expression shifted to more of a hurt one now.

"Look... I should be the one apologizin'. But do ya understand why something like this is hard? It's not normal. I'm not supposed to feel like this."

"Yes, Eddy. I do understand."

"I'm—scared."

Double D looked over at him fully.

Eddy didn't want to cry again.

Especially at school.

In a parking lot.

He hasn't even made it to his car yet.

"But I told you that I don't have anything against you, Eddy. I never did, never will."

"I know, Double D. Ya think I don't think about that?"

Eddy moved his head away and looked down at his hands.

It was quiet again.

The breeze provided a gentle white sound.

Double D sighed.

"I'm going back inside, surely Ed would get worried."

Eddy turned his head towards him again, nodding softly.

"Would you like to join me?"

Double D brought his hand out.

His light smile.

Eddy reciprocated it.

"Fine."

Eddy hesitantly grabbed onto his hand, not sure why he was even being offered it.

They started to walk towards the doors.

"I'm more important to you than your parents, huh?"

Double D's hand froze on the door handle.

"You've physically stayed with me for longer, yes. I can't say you haven't... reshaped me as we have grown."

Eddy chuckled.

"Glad to be of service to you."
