Nick threw my t-shirt, and I caught it mid-air before putting it on. He pulled down his hoodie and was now fully dressed. He was ready to leave, and I didn't want him to go just yet. I glanced at the clock, and it was ten before six.

"Let's go have breakfast before I leave."

I smiled. That would give us some more time.

We went down to the kitchen, and I prepared the quickest breakfast I could think of.

"Cereal and milk. Nice," he commented as he took a seat on the table.

"Well, we want you to get out ASAP as I don't want you to get involved with my relationship problems."

I pushed the box of cereals towards him and took a seat.

"Mace, you'll get through this. Give me a call once you talk to him, alright?"

I nodded. "About what happened last night..."

"Don't worry about it. My lips are sealed."

We ate our breakfast and avoided talking about Clark or Sunshine or what happened with us last night. I knew it wasn't a drunken mistake. I might be under the influence of alcohol, but I was sober enough to know that I wanted to do it.

"Mace, I know everything will be alright," he murmured as I was just about to clear the dishes on the table.

"Thanks." I tried to give him what I hoped was a reassuring smile.

His phone vibrated on the table, and we both glanced at it at the same time. Sunshine's daring contact photo flashed on the screen, mocking me.

Ugh.

Nick picked it up and excused himself. I placed the dishes on the sink and waited for him to hang up.

"Sorry, I have to go," he apologized.

"It's okay. You've done a lot for me. Thanks for spending the night here."

"You're not alone, dude. You'll never be."

I nodded. "Thanks."

I felt a pang of jealousy, and I knew I had no right to be. I swallowed the lump in my throat and tried to clear my head. I couldn't deal with it at the moment. I had so much on my plate, and I couldn't afford to have another problem, especially one concerning Nick.

"I have to meet Shine for lunch."

"Okay," I replied and faked a smile. "Thanks again. Oh, and good luck with the proposal."

He raised his eyebrows and asked, "How'd you know I haven't proposed yet?"

"Because I know that no matter what I said, you'd tell me how the proposal went, and you haven't told me anything. Did you even buy a ring?"

"Yeah." He nodded and didn't offer any further explanation.

I nodded back, thinking of something else to say. I was trying to stall him even if I knew he should be out of here soon because Clark might come home, and this would be even bigger trouble.

"About last night..." I started.

"Dude, calm down. It never happened, if that's what you're thinking about. I just spent the night here to keep you company and nothing else," he explained reassuringly.

But that wasn't what I was thinking about. I wanted him to remember it. I didn't want us to forget it ever happened.

He glanced at his phone and sighed. "I really have to go now. Shine's asking where I am."
