Chapter-6
As the days became warmer, Jack visited lesser and lesser. Soon spring came and he hardly ever visited. Springs were hardly even cool where I lived.
Soon it was Easter, everyone was peachy, love was in the air, but no frost.
I went to the church with my cousin, for the third year in a row. Afterward there was a huge easter egg hunt.
Around noon, I bent over to to pick up an egg and a unusually rough gust of wind was pushed my way. My skirt flew up. Thank god I was behind a bush.
My face turned red and I brushed my skirt down. There was an obvious whistle that made me do a 180 faster than you can say television. But there wasn't anyone.
"Real mature, who's there? Is it you Matt?"
There was a familiar snicker and a cold chill ran down my back. "What are you cheating on me already? You urban girls are so dishonest!"
Jack glided over and pecked at my cheek.
"Look at you, Mr. Panty lover strikes again," I pinched his ear and kissed his cheek.
"I have someone I want you to meet," he pulled me down and made me crawl beneath a bush to another other side.
"Bunnymund," he whispered. A ginormous animal jumped in my view. He, apparently a bunny, was a shade of bluish-gray and his stomach was a creme color. Goosebumps appeared on my arm as I studied his huge pack containing who knows what.
"Um.... Hi?" I brushed off my clothes. "Hello there, Easter Bunny, at your service," he had a serious Australian accent. He let out his hand for a shake. My eyes grew big. "He- hello sir," I shook his hand rapidly.
"It's a pleasure to meet you sir," I couldn't help but be shocked. The Easter bunny was Australian and huge...
"This is Farrah, she's a goody-two-shoes," Jack laughed with his hands in his pocket. I punched his arm. He held in the pain, "and strong."
Bunnymund laughed, "Good to meet ya mate. It's rare that girls your age that still believe in us Guardians. Tell me if Jack gives you any trouble."
"Don't worry, I'm sure I can take him," I smoothed my hair. Bunnymund sighed, "Sorry for the hurry but i have to get going. Stuff to do, maybe we can catch up some other time." I shook his hand again and then he was off.
"In like, a week we should all hang out. If that's allowed. I think you two would become good friends," Jack sat down on some smooth grass. His frost covered the area, I sat in front of him, facing him. "Why so?"
"I dunno, you both like bothering the heck out of me," he drew with his frost on the ground next to him. The frost instantly froze and small pieces of grass peeked above the soil.
"Wow, nature is awesome, don't you think?" I played with the grass. "Yeah, I'm glad I can be a part of it," he pulled me onto his lap. I felt the goosebumps come back. "Am I too cold for you? I'm sorry."
I looked up at him, "It's fine."
His fist clenched some fresh grass, "I can't help but feel like I'm hurting you."
My heart beat faster and suddenly I felt his freezing arms around my waist.
"Jack... It's fine."
"No it's not" he turned me so that our faces faced each other.
"Dude, it's alright, you aren't"
"No, it isn't"
"You aren't," I stared him deep in the eyes.
He pushed me down into the grass and held me down by the shoulder with his icy hands. Frost developed on the sleeves of my button down, white blouse.
"Stop it. You're too nice. I can feel it, This is going to burn up with flames."
"I'm willing to take that chance," I closed my eyes and felt the wind rush past us.
He leaned down and kissed me. We lied there for a long time. "I'm afraid of getting too close to you," he whispered, taking a break.
"As if you even know how?" I mumbled.
"Hey! Stop being so,...." He stopped.
My mother's voice arose from behind the shrubs. "Farrah!" She called. Jack and I looked at each other simultaneously. "Damnit..." He sat up, "It seems you're missed."
I nodded my head and brushed some of the dirt off my shirt and skirt. "Bye, see you next time," I whispered and kissed his cheek. I picked up my basket and found my way back to the car where I waited for my family to be worried about me.
