Chapter 9:
*Jack's POV*
It was snowing heavily and the wind was harsh. It slammed me into Farrah's window like a baseball. "Jeez, soften up," I laughed knocking on the window. The curtains were drawn to the side however no one was there. I looked through the windows of the house, not a soul was in sight. The gate was open though. Obviously someone was in hurry.
I allowed the wind to guide me through the neighborhood. I flew up and down the streets and then continued onto the next and then the next. The car missing from her driveway was a eight seater mini van. An odd shade of tan and the license plate isn't important.
I searched thoroughly and didn't stop until i spotted their van. Sadly, i did.
Parked in the third space in the hospital parking lot.
This is not happening... Maybe she has a check up or her brother does... Maybe she just has a mild fever and wants to get a doctors opinion on something. Anything but...
These thoughts went through my head as I checked each window of every room. Everywhere i could, i looked. Finally i managed to be knocked through another window.
There she laid. Sleeping seemingly peacefully. In reality, hardly anyone sleeps peacefully in a hospital unless they've passed.
"Farrah, Farrah, what's wrong?" I floated over her. The wind gusted around and shook the curtains rapidly.
"Oh my god!" The nurse raced into the room. She slammed the window shut. She ran right through I and checked Farrah's stats.
Simultaneously the machine began beeping.
"No, No, No! Wake up, don't go!" I clenched the hospital bed railing tightly. The doctor raced in and took her away.
"Where are you going?!?!" I followed them out of the room and through the halls. People discussing, waiting, rushing. I stopped following them as they ran into the room and closed the door. "Please be okay..." I stared at the door for a short time. At least some little kids noticed me and made me smile a little bit. Of corse, those smiles couldn't even last a few seconds
It was loud. And then quiet. "Come on..." I tapped my foot anxiously. "Hey, what are you doing?" A punky kid folded his arms. He was wearing hat and had dark brown hair and light brown eyes.
"Ya.... you can see me?" I turned, confused.
"My cousin is in there, you better back off. She'll be coming out soon." After a few moments of scanning me he whispered, "You're Jack Frost right?" He squinted his eyes.
"You're Farrah's cousin?" I looked at the kid. If I could recall, his name was Adam and he was about 13 years old. At least that's what I could remember from skimming through a little bit about Farrah's family on North's globe.
That doesn't count as stalking...
"Yeah, nice to meet you, Adam," I rolled my eyes and hardly shook his finger.
He immediately pulled his hand away, "Woah, I didn't expect you to be that cold." He smiled, he's a good kid and he likes having fun. He also likes the snow, I definitely noted that one.
"What did the doctors say?" I sat on the floor, cross legged.
He folded his arms, "I don't care what they have to say. She's going to be okay."
"So, they said it was bad?"
"I didn't talk to them, i overheard them saying that it was really bad... but they are wrong," He kept his head down. " She's only like, sixteen. People don't die when they're sixteen. They die when they're like, eighty. And even if she does, what did she do that was so wrong, she's never done anything wrong. She always so nice and funny, so what, sometimes she's really serious but it's okay to be serious as long as you are also fun. And she is..." He clenched his denim jeans and tears fell onto his dark green jacket.
"Thats not true," my hands turned into fists. "People die at all ages, good and bad. The fact is i died very young too. Things like this happen every day, it isn't fair but it happens."
"You... Just shut up. You're Jack Frost, what are you even doing here? And if you're so mystical they why can't you do anything to help her?" He gave me the angriest and saddest look I've ever seen.
"I've done enough," I choked on my words and put my hood on.
"Whatever Jack," He jumped from his seat and walked aloofly into the hall.
In a few minutes a couple of the doctors came out. They're expressions were bitter, I tried to prepare for what was coming next.
"We're sorry ma'am, she's gone..." A female doctor told Farrah's mother in a hushed tone.
Her mother began crying, and so did her father. At first it didn't quite hit me, but when it did, i sure did.
No.... this can't be...
I walked into the room where she laid. Not a single vital sign was shown.
I knew this would happen.
I wish i never met her!
She was better off with someone else!
I did nothing but hurt her!
Why did I even continue to visit her?!?!
I should've stayed away...
I stood their and continued beat myself up, right in front of her corpse.
