Kat slept In too late.
That was not good. It was ten o'clock by the time she opened her eyes. And as soon as she she did, she wished she hadn't. "Ahhhhhh!" She screamed, and tried to punch the figure hovering over her. "Aghhh!" It screamed back, and lost its balance. "AHHHHHH!" Kat screamed even louder. The figure ducked as Kat tried to kick it from under the covers. "Hey, whoa!" It said. Kat took a few deep breathes, and attacked the figure again, but not because she was scared, she was mad. "AKEX! I HATE YOU SO MUCH!" she yelled. "Alex laughed as Kat tackled her too the floor. "You should have seen your face!" She laughed. "You won't be able too!" Kat screamed. "Because I'm gona gouge out your eyes!" Alex put her hands up to block her face. After Kat had cooled off, Alex explained why, exactly, she was in Kat's room. "Mara called!"
She said. "They found out who rigged your board!" Kat jumped up. "WELL DONT JUST SIT THERE! WHO DID IT!" Alex looked at Kat. "Jase."Kat barged into Jase's room. "I can't believe you!" She yelled. Jase looked up from his drawings. "Wait, what?" He said. "It was you!" Kat's face was red. "You rigged my board!" Jase looked confused. Kat had hoped that it Mara's mom had made a mistake, but the look on Jase's face said it all. "I can't believe you!" She said. "Kat, wait." "No need." Kat said calmly. "You just leave me alone." She turned, leaving an upset Jase behind.
Kat was heartbroken by Jase. He had kept her from doing the one thing she wanted to do most. Kat sat, her back against the rocks, and cried. She cried her heart out. After all the crying, Kat just sat there. Looking out into the water. She thought about Jase. Soon, Kat was accompanied, by Michael. She wanted to yell at him, tell him to go away, but she couldn't. He was right. Michael put his arm around Kat, who excepted he act of kindness by putting her head on his shoulder. The two sat in silence, starting out into the roaring waves. Kat felt affection for Michael again, and made a promise to herself, that she would never let Michael go a second time.
Kat walked around her room, removing everything that had to do with Jase. The photos of them, the drawings he gave her, things they had collected or made together, things that they had made jokes about, everything. Kat's room was nearly empty by the time she was done. There was just one thing that she couldn't give up. It was the drawing of the genie. Kat put it in the trash several times, but each time, she took it out. It had too much value. Kat knew she couldn't keep it up in her room like before, so she stuck it in the pocket of her diary. Kat received several phone calls from Jase, but she declined all of them. He texted her, asking too meet him on the beach, but she refused. Kat heard a knock at her door. She spun around as Jase entered. She ran towards the door and closed it before Jase came in. "Kat." He said "just listen. It wasn't me." "Ya right!" Kat snapped. "I know it was you." Jase sighed. "Look, I'm sorry. I just... I just..." "You just WHAT!" Kat yelled. "I just didn't want you to be taken away from me." Kat stopped holding the door closed. A tear trickled down her cheek. Jase had done something wrong, but he had good intentions. Jase stood outside the closed door. "Do you forgive me?"
The summer began to fade, and the dreaded school year began to approach. It had taken Kat forever to put back all of the things Jase had given her, but now, her room was back to normal. Kat stood in her room, looking at her closet. Tomorrow was the last day of summer vacation. Last day of surfing. Last day of Alex. Kat planned on spending the next day with her friends, Mara, Alex, Jase, Mike, Tyler, and Michael. Jase still wasn't big on hanging out with Michael, but Kat liked him, so Jase respected that. Kat had become best friends with Alex, and couldn't bear the thought of her leaving. The two had the greatest summer ever, and both didn't want it to end. "Mom!" Kat yelled. "Yes sweetie?" "I need some back to school clothes!" "Sure thing!" Kat's phone rang. She looked at the caller I. D. It was Alex. Kat decided to prank her. She answered the phone. "Hi, sorry I can't answer now, please leave me a message! Bye!" Kat hit a button that made a "beep!" Sound, and waited. "Hey Kat, it's Alex, um, I just..." "Your call has been ended." Kat held back a laugh, as she heard Alex's reaction. "Stupid phone! I was leaving a voicemail! Dumb thing! MOM! I NEED A NEW PHONE!" Kat laughed. "Wait a minute, Kat?" "Tricked Ya!" Alex rolled her eyes. "Hey, can you come over?" "Sure." Kat had been over to Alex's aunt and uncles house many times over the summer. Mara and Alex probably just wanted to chat.
