30 Pirouettes

"That's not what Thalia said." As much as Eldon hated to admit it, Noah was right. Because no matter how many tricks he had, no matter how good of a dancer he was, if he couldn't do 30 pirouettes he couldn't date Thalia.

And he was getting nowhere. He spent hours everyday trying to get to 30, but he couldn't do it. Most days, he was lucky if he got into the twenties. It seemed that the harder he tried to reach thirty pirouettes, the further away he got.

Maybe it was because there was so much pressure on each pirouette. That if he didn't get to 30 pirouettes he couldn't date Thalia. And honestly, no matter how many times Thalia told him that she'd wait for him, he was so scared that she wouldn't. That she'd get fed up of waiting for him to do 30 pirouettes, something that even shrimpy j-troupe Noah could, and she would move on. Find someone new. Someone who could do 30 pirouettes. Someone who didn't need to be able to do 30 pirouettes.

It was so annoying watching Noah do 30 pirouettes so easily. Like he didn't even have to try. And sure, maybe he was putting on a front to show off, but he could still do 30 pirouettes. It infuriated Eldon the way Noah thought he was a better dancer than Eldon, but the reason it was so infuriating was because Eldon was worried he was right. That maybe Noah would be a better international soloist. Because yes, pirouettes weren't everything but they were to Eldon. His thing was being the best turner in the studio. And now he wasn't. Now Noah was.

Even if he managed to do 30 pirouettes, would Thalia still want to date him. He was the best dancer in the studio. That was why girls liked him. It was why Emily and Michelle had both agreed to go out with him. If he wasn't the best dancer in the studio, would Thalia even like him anymore? A part of Eldon insisted she would, that she was telling the truth when she said that she loved him, that his dancing wasn't why she loved him. But the longer he couldn't do 30 pirouettes, the harder it was to believe this.

Eldon loved Thalia. He really did. But 30 pirouettes was hard. And Noah was right. Him getting 30 pirouettes meant just as much to Thalia as it did to him. Which was why Eldon's biggest fear wasn't that she'd move on or she wouldn't like him anymore. It was that by not ever getting 30 pirouettes, he'd let her down. And another one of his relationships would fail before it even began.
