A/N: Read moments and v day first. Also Summenzie is the cutest, imo and this is them from Kenzie's perspective

'Take the next step.' That was my fortune, and if I didn't know better, I'd say that Nick knew about the promise ring. But he can't, because that's a secret I've kept too well and for too long. I've wanted to give it to Summer ever since we told each other we loved each other but it needed to be special, because this is forever.

I have plans for today. I'm taking her to the funfair and when we're at the top of the Ferris wheel, I'm going to ask. I'm terrified. But also not. Because spending the rest of my life with Summer is the least scary thing in the world.

We get the bus to the funfair and Summers chatting happily the whole time. I'm not saying much, just taking her in. She's like a drug, so addicting but in a good way. We get to the funfair and she insists on going in the bumper cars. She crashes into a wall six times, but she's smiling the whole time. It's like we're moving in slow motion, I'm taking in the tiniest details like I've only just realised how amazing she is. The sun's glinting off her hair and is reflected in her eyes and she seems to be glowing with happiness. We get off the bumper cars, dizzy from crashing so much and I buy us a stick of candy floss to share, then lead her over to the Ferris wheel. "Oh my god, are we actually going on it?" she says excitedly. "Of course babes" I smile. "But you're scared of heights" she says, spinning around to face me. Her face is masked with worry for me. "I am scared of heights" I admit. "But it won't be as scary with you." Her face clears and her eyes soften and in that moment I think she might be as in love with me as I am with her.

We get onto the Ferris Wheel and Summers pointing around in excitement. I'm nervous and terrified and excited all at the same time. The wheel is moving so slowly, but also far too quickly for my queasy stomach. Finally we reach the top. Summer is trying her best to spot The Next Step but I nudge her slightly. "I love you" I say. "I love you too" she smiles, but she looks slightly confused at my serious expression. I reach into my pocket and pull out my closed fist. "I have something for you" I smile. Summer perks up. I open my fist. "It's a promise ring" I say shyly. Summer meets my eyes and in that moment understanding passes between us. I know how much she loves me, and she knows how much I love her, and we know how much we both want this to be together. She leans in to kiss me and it's soft and long and full of love. Eventually we both pull away, after running out of breath. She takes the ring and puts it on her ring finger, admiring the way it sparkles in the sun. She turns back to face me. "I really do love you Kenz" she says, tracing patterns on my hand softly. "I love you too" I reply. We sit in silence for the rest of the trip, enjoying each other's company.

When we get off, I pull Summer to the back of the queue. "You want to go up again?" she asks, surprised. "No" I say. "But you do. You missed the top so this time you can enjoy it properly." "But you hate heights" Summer laughed. "Why would you want to go through it twice?" "I don't" I laugh. "I'm doing it for you. Because I love you." Summer smiles. "Thanks." She squeezes my hand and the ring digs into my fingers slightly, sending butterflies through my stomach. I kiss her lightly before responding. "That's what love is."
