“Hi, yea just to be clear. I am Oakley Roberts; I’m just your average country girl. But my parents and Hugh would happen to disagree. I go to Jefferson High School, I’m in 11th grade. My parents are longtime horse men people. We live in East Tennessee and our place is called Horseshoe ranch. We raise cattle and horses. Oh, did I mention that I’m 16?” I wrote down on a piece of paper.
“Oakley! Get your butt down here your father needs you” Mom called.
“OK, ok I’m coming I’m coming.” I yelled back to her. I ran out the door to find Hugh walking Tops (One of our many horses) I said hi to him while running to grab Ace (My Tennessee walker who was white and had grey speckles everywhere on him). I saddled him up and rode out to the pasture where my father was located.
“Hey sleeping beauty!” He yelled towards me.
“Wasn’t sleeping, was getting ready for school” She called back to him.
“Ok, come on we have to fix the barbed wire before your bus comes and before I let the cattle graze out here.” I nodded and put my thick gloves on. We spent a good hour on the fence till I heard the bus from afar.
“Hey, the bus is almost here. See you later!” I called to him while riding Ace back to the house. I gave Ace to Hugh.
“Hey, can you unsaddle him? The bus will be here in a sec and I have to grab my essay.” I pleaded to Hugh.
“Sure kid, but you have to clean out Tops and Ace’s stall after school,” He teased.
“Fine, don’t I do that every day?” I called back to him as I ran to the house. While I grabbed my stuff I turned to see the bus pull up.
“Bye!” I yelled to my mom while I bolted out the door. I jumped on the bus, while I nodded towards Lou (Our bus driver).
“Hey girly,” Lou called over her shoulder.
“Hey Lou, thanks for waiting.” I said to her.
“Nah, no prob. Well let’s get going.” She said while closing the doors and started driving. I took my seat and looked out the window at the forest and the flowering fields. We stopped and picked up a few other people. Tucker Mathew was one of them.
“Hey Tucker” I called to him, while he settled down next to me.
“Hi Oak,” He said with a smile plastered on his face.
I smiled and said, “Can't wait for summer, what about you?”
He nodded and smiled, “Yup can’t wait to hit the swimming hole on your property.
“Hey, wanna come ride tomorrow?” I said and we arrived at school.
“Sure,” He replied.
“See you later Tucker,” I said and I walked off the bus and went inside, I walked to my locker and opened it up taking my books out. When I started walking towards my first class it was about five minutes till my class started. When I finally got there the class hadn’t started. I just sat there staring into space.
“Miss Oakley,” I heard Mister Tanner shout.
“Oh Yes! Present, sorry.”
He nodded and continued calling names. Several hours later I was positioned in a English class listening to my teacher talk about how summer was about to start and how she wanted us to right a essay during summer. When that class ended I walked out of the class and saw my father’s truck sitting there. I jumped in and buckled up.
