Chapter 6

I woke up and I sat up. I yawned loudly as I lifted my feet to the floor then sleepily walking over to my mirror that was mounted to my wall. Let’s just say my hair doesn’t look like the freshly laid hair I went to sleep with. It took a good five minutes to get all the knots out. I got dressed and walked out and went outside. Then I saw something I had never imagined possible; Zane was working, like working hard not like a work just to get by, but an honest labored job. I walked over to him and started to help him unload the rest of the hay bales that my father had baled. Once done I turned around and wiped the sweat from my neck, and there stood Tucker staring at Zane.

“Who’s the cow dude?” Zane asked dipping his head towards Tucker as he turned from the hay.

“The cowdude’s name is Tucker.” Tucker replied then his gaze turned towards me, “I came to say goodbye, I’m leaving to the University.”

“Oh Tucker! I completely forgot about that!” I said as I ran up to him and gave him a hug, “Goodbye.”

“Who’s your ‘Friend’?” Tucker growled slightly.

“Oh,” I looked at Zane who now had a balled fist, “This is Zane, my parents needed some help and he now is living with us and helping with the farm.”

Tucker narrowed his eyes as he protectively stepped in front of me, “Zane, why don’t you run and feed the ponies so I can get caught up with Oakley.”

Zane stepped forward and lifted his fist, then I ran in front of the too drama babies.

“Zane, I’m gonna say goodbye to Tucker. Why don’t you go see if my dad needs any help?” I said almost pleading with him.

Zane’s gaze turned towards me with an almost hurt expression then it quickly faded, “Sure whatever why would I care?” He walked away towards the field.

I turned towards the now smirking Tucker and I said, “What was that about?”

“What do you mean? He is just a punk who only does what he wants and what he can get.” He said mildly.

                “He isn’t that bad…” I said softly.

“You mean you actually like that jerk?” He said in a small growl.

“No, but when you get to know him he is very nice. Anyway, you’re leaving now?” I said with a still confused voice from what had just happened.

“Yea, my parents wanted me to get a head start during summer during that time.” He said a little sad about leaving.

“Oh, summer is just around the corner, isn’t it!” I said a little happier.

“Yea, I am gonna miss swimming with you and Amanda. Oh, have you showed the punk our swimming hole?”

“Yea, I got bad sunburn.” I replied shrugging it off. Tucker growled a little and then wrapped his arms around me I moaned from the burn but let him.

“I’m gonna miss you,” he said sheepishly looking down.

“I’m gonna miss you too, and don’t go all city boy on me, ok?” I teased.
