Christmas was your favourite time of the year, and you were beyond happy to get to spend it with your girlfriend, Lena. You didn't have the biggest plans for this Christmas Day, but you were going to spend it together and make the most of the day together rather than going to spend time with family or friends. You woke up in the late morning, neither of you having had a chance to have a lie in all year due to work. It was nice to have a chance to sleep for longer than a couple of hours and have nothing of a great importance to do once you awoken.
Just waking up next to her without needing to rush to get ready for work or worrying about your next deadline, was gift enough but being able to get up together and head down to sit by the fire with a cup of tea was the cherry on top.
The two of you had matching grey Christmas pyjamas along with having reindeer slippers to add to the festive look.
"Are we doing presents before or after breakfast?" You questioned, buzzing slightly with excitement as though you were a child on Christmas day, waiting for your presents.
Lena shrugged her shoulders. "I don't mind, I'm guessing that you want to open them before seen as you're starting to move towards the tree."
You hadn't waited for her response before you started scooting along the sofa in the direction of the tree to save the seconds, you'd waste to get to the wrapped presents underneath the Christmas tree.
"I'm excited," you grinned, dropping down to the floor so that you could easily pull out the presents from under the tree without knocking off the decorations from the lower branches.
You dug through the presents to find one with each of your names on and handed Lena hers.
"I think that one is from my parents," you stated. "So is this one."
Lena put the present you gave her down beside her as she rose from her seat. "Can I pick your first present?"
You didn't know why she wanted to, but you nodded your head and moved to the side to let her pick out which present she wanted you to open. She grabbed a small, wrapped cube and handed it to you before sitting down on the floor beside you. Lena nodded her head when you looked up at her for permission to open it.
Unwrapping the paper, you found a small velvet box inside. You discarded the paper to where you assumed a pile of wrapping paper would form, before you could open the small box to reveal a silver ring with a green stone on top.
"I know how much you love Christmas and I also know how much I love you, so I couldn't think of a better time to ask you if you would marry me. So... will you make me the happiest woman alive, and be my wife?"
You couldn't help but grin at Lena as you nodded your head until your neck begun to hurt.
"Of course," you smiled. "This is the best Christmas I've ever had."
