Stefan's POV:

"You can't be serious Caroline," I said with a frustrated groan, looking towards my girlfriend.

"You need to come with me to the party, it's the biggest one in all of mystic falls and I need a date to get in," Caroline shot back, adorning a beautiful red dress that reached just above her knees, trying desperately to find her missing diamond earring.

"Look, I've been to so many parties and events In the past week then I have over a century, and you do realise being a vampire means you have compulsion," Stefan said, looking towards the blonde.

"Stefan, you are coming to this party as my date or you can find some other house to sleep in," Caroline said sweetly, her smile gaining a lethal edge.

"You do realise this is my house," Stefan said, frowning towards the female vampire. Before she could argue against him, his phone started ringing and he quickly picked it up, glad for any excuse to get out of this situation.

"Hello," he answered into the phone, after seeing that it was Damon.

"Stefan, we have a problem," his brother merely said, causing the familier lines of stress to appear on Stefan's face. Caroline, taking note of this, looked at him in confusion which Stefan merely waved away. He knew that if his brother had a problem, then it meant Elena had a problem, and if he was being honest, he was still annoyed that even after breaking up with her, she still managed to drag him into her problems. Though it was partially his fault as he could never say no to her. He knew the others thought it was because he still had a special place for Elena in his heart but it was merely for the face she carried. Katherine's, and although she had manipulated the brothers on so many occasions he still felt that he failed her.

"I'm on my way," He replied, quickly hanging up his phone and grabbing his coat before he was interrupted by Caroline.

"Woah, where are you going," She said, vamp-speeding in front of the door and preventing him from leaving.

"Caroline, I need to go, Elena's in trouble," Stefan said, sending an annoyed expression towards the girl, while she scoffed at him.

"You always need to save Elena, you drop everything to save her," Caroline said, frustration and envy bleeding into her tone.

"Would you rather her die," Stefan said with confusion, looking towards the other immortal being.

"Just admit you love her more then you love me," Caroline cried, causing the other to furrow his eyebrows while shaking his head vehemently.

"Caroline, you know that's not true," he said, watching as the girl in front of him suddenly lost her fire and sighed softly.

"Stefan, I'm gonna be honest with you, I don't think we're ever going to work," Caroline said, before holding up her hand to stop Stefan from interrupting, "you can't even deny it, I'm constantly dragging you to places that you don't want to go, ignoring your decision and being my inner control freak,"

"You're not," Stefan started yet Caroline sent him a reprimanding look showing her disagreement. " I love you Stefan, I do, but I don't think in that way," with that she walked up to him a hugged him tightly while whispering in his ear to go. He returned the gesture full heartedly and they both looked to each other to see no tears, it was as if a weight had been lifted from their shoulders. He smiled at her, a smile that she had not seen in a long time. They were always better off as friends. With that he sped off but not before placing something in her hand. She looked down to see her missing diamond earring.
