Chapter 5

Kai's POV:

Kai, to put it simply, felt on top of the world. After becoming a heretic he truly felt he had the best of both worlds. He could use magic whenever he wanted and had the perks of compulsion and super speed. 

Right now he was somewhere in New York and trying desperately to find a shop that sold pork rinds. Hey. Don't judge him. As he walked down an aisle between two shelves in a shop, he noticed a conversation between a son and father. The son was holding a bright red car and the father seemed angry.

"Listen here kid, you shouldn't dare be ungrateful to me, I've given you food, water clothes, heck even a bed, I swear you start opening that stupid mouth of yours I'll get that all taken away got it," the father threatened the kid who looked to be near tears.

"It was mommy's favourite car," the boy sniffled, holding the veihicle closer to his chest.

"Yeah well I don't care about your mommy, she moved to a different bloody house after the divorce and she can stay for all I care," the dad rolled his eyes muttering curses under his breath.

"Why can't I go to her house," the boy said with sadness bleeding into his tone.

"You know the amount of money I get from fostering you," The dad said in disbelief before continuing, "you should be lucky someone even wants you, it's not my fault that your a worthless child, no one wanted you and now I'm stuck with you, honestly your an abomination," 

"Hello," Kai quickly interrupted, standing in front of the man.

"What do you want,freak" the dad said,  glaring at the newcomer. Kai narrowed his eyes before he looked down towards the boy who looked like he wanted to be anywhere else, as long as it was away from his foster dad.

"Hey kid, wanna see a magic trick," Kai said, while the boy nodded his head slowly.

The man scoffed, ready to reply before kai looked him in the eye, using compulsion.

"What's your name," he asked.

Having no other choice but to answer the man replied, " Joshua smith," 

Of course it bloody was thought kai.

"Oooh that's unfortunate," kai said, before he focused on boiling the mans blood. Joshua collapsed on the floor and screamed in pain while the boy turned away and started to play with the car, ignoring the mans screams. Kai just kept pushing on his magic, relishing in the fact that he no longer needed to siphon from others to perform spells.

 He was too deep in his thoughts that he hadn't noticed the amount of magic he was using and it was too late to stop as the body of the man exploded, blood and guts covering the shelves. In the last minute kai had placed a shield spell over himself and coincidentally the boy who was playing cars right behind him. They were in a perfect circle that was the only spot not filled with blood and guts. The boy had paused in his game and surveyed the part of the shop they were in. He then turned to look at kai.

"Cool," the boy said, causing the other to grin at him widely.

Kai then left the shop after compelling a shop employee that it was a ketchup mishap, the boy staying with the manager of the shop to call up his mother, the red car still firm in his grip. To say that it was a good day for kai would be correct. Maybe he should find another Joshua to torture. He was thinking death from 1000 cuts. With that he gleefully left the scene, waving goodbye to the boy who waved excitedly back.
