“I’m so jealous, I wish our school had uniforms,” Danny huffed when they walked into Chloe’s house after dance classes had ended that evening. He picked Avery’s blazer up off the ground and draped it over the banister.

They’d been in school for a month and life was crazy busy. Chloe was really glad she had Danny and Slade because with school and ballet classes every day she sure wasn’t making friends any other way.

“You’re so weird,” Chloe shook her head.

“Can you imagine, all the guys dressed up every day?” Danny sighed. “That’s my idea of paradise.”

“Okay, I see your point,” Chloe smiled.

“If we had to wear uniforms every day you wouldn’t get to stare at that guy Matt’s ass in his skinny jeans,” Slade pointed out as they walked into the kitchen. Brent turned from the stove and smiled at them.

“No, but seeing him in a tie might make up for that,” Danny said.

“Whatever,” Slade rolled his eyes.

“Jealous?” Brent asked. There was an awkward pause. Chloe tried not to look nervous - Slade didn’t know Danny had told her about their conversation and she definitely hadn’t said anything to her dad.

“Me?” Slade asked. “No, Danny can act desperate if he wants.”

“Uhuh,” Brent turned back to the stove. “Dinner’s almost ready.”

“We’ll set the table,” Chloe said quickly, rushing to get plates. She would rather help get dinner on the table than clean up after, especially with her friends over.

Chloe couldn’t decide if it felt strange that they’d already been in New York so long or if the days were passing slowly. September was almost over and her days were busier than ever. She spent most of the day at school but was allowed to leave 45 minutes early so she could make it to SAB for her daily ballet classes. Some days were over fast but there were plenty of days that dragged on endlessly.

“Slade!” Avery, Chloe’s youngest brother, had made fast friends with both boys. “I did exactly what you said. I sat next to Molly at lunch today and it was fun. Her friends got all weird but I ignored them like you told me and it worked.”

“See? It’s not hard, right?” Slade smiled.

“No, and my friends kept asking how I did it,” Avery said. “It’s like they’re scared of girls or something.”

“Girls are scary,” Chloe said. She was mostly joking; while she did know plenty of girls who could be scary sometimes Avery wouldn’t know what she meant.
