The bell rang and Danny had to scramble to finish writing his notes. How was class over already? He hated feeling like he was behind in all his classes. School was so different in New York than it had been at home.

Danny picked up all his books and tried not groan. It was really dumb that their stupid school didn’t have lockers so he wouldn’t have to haul all his stuff with him all day. He was the last person out of the classroom, not even his History teacher bothered to wait around.

His next class was math and Danny tried to get there early so he could start copying the problems but that day he turned the corner and saw Matt walking toward him. For a second, Danny hoped Matt would say something to him. Then he hoped he wouldn’t because what would he even say back?

“Daniel,” Matt smiled at him.

“Matthias,” Danny smiled back. Matt paused. He was still smiling but he had his eyebrows raised.

“How did you know that’s my name?” Matt asked.

“Um,” Danny bit his tongue. “I saw it somewhere, I can’t remember.”

“Hm,” Matt seemed okay with that answer. “See you later.”

“Yeah,” Danny said. He would see him later because it was a small school. But it was kind of a weird thing to say.

Danny tried not to watch Matt walk away but he looked anyway. He had on those jeans again, the ones with the red patch. Danny was close enough this time to see the writing. “Get in here,” the patch said. Danny smiled.

“Dan, come on,” Slade laughed.

“What?” Danny turned to look at him.

“You were smiling at his ass,” Slade said. “You can do better.”

“He’s a nice guy,” Danny insisted. He didn’t really know that for sure but Matt always acted like a nice guy.

“Yeah, he is, that’s not what I meant,” Slade nudged him. “I meant you don’t have to be so obvious.”

“Right,” Danny sighed. Wow, he was really pathetic.

“What are you doing out here anyway? Shouldn’t you be in class already?” Slade asked.

“Oh f*ck,” Danny gasped.

“Bye,” Slade laughed as Danny rushed off. But that was Slade. He barely had to work to get his grades. Actually, he barely did any work and still had his grades which was what annoyed Danny the most.

To make things worse, Danny couldn’t concentrate after that. He was too busy thinking about Matt to pay attention in class. Since Slade would have Chloe soon it was only fair that Danny had someone of his own. Why not Matt?
