Oliver walked up the steps of the upper office room in Verdant. It had been a long day and Evelyn had gone home for the night, in order to catch what little sleep she could before the morning, due to her insomnia. Oliver saw Thea at her desk, typing on the laptop. She had been crying, it seemed.
'Hey,' he said. He pulled out a chair and took a seat. 'What are you still doing up here?'
'Thinking,' she responded, not looking at him. 'Crying.' She sniffled. 'Roy and I are -'
He nodded slowly, sympathetically. 'What happened?' She turned and finally stopped her work long enough to look at him.
'I caught him with some slut. Right over there, actually.'
'I'm sorry.'
'He was doing it to push me away, which clearly worked. I just... I don't know why. Why is it so hard for everyone to just tell me the truth? I mean, Roy can't even tell me the truth of why he wants to end things with me. Mom, she - she keeps all of these secrets. I mean, doesn't it - doesn't it feel like she's still keeping something from us?' Oliver opened his mouth to speak, once, then twice, but nothing came out that could possibly make his youngest sister feel better. So he tried the only thing that might work.
'I don't know, Thea.'
'You're the only one that doesn't lie to me, Ollie. You and Evelyn. You guys are the only ones I know that don't keep secrets from me. I gotta go.' She grabbed her things and began to walk away.
'Let me drive you,' he offered, but she ignored the offer.
'No, I just want to be alone right now.' Sara came up into the office as Thea walked down the steps with her things.
'Is she okay?' Sara asked.
'She will be. Eventually. You did good tonight.'
'That's what heroes do, right?' He leaned down and gave her a gentle kiss, then kissed her forehead.
In the Arrow hideout...
The security camera showed Thea pulling on her jacket and walking out of the empty nightclub, Roy watching the feed as he sat in the chair. Felicity came around the desk and John Diggle walked forward, placing his hand on Roy's shoulder, in a gesture of silent comfort. Then the IT girl and the security guard walked away, leaving Roy alone. Roy picked up a bracelet on the desk and with his hand shaking, crushed the gift in his hand, letting it drop to the floor.
On the streets of Starling City...
Thea walked the streets as a vehicle drove up behind her. The vehicle pulled to a near stop and kept slowly rolling.
'It's a dangerous city. You shouldn't be out on the streets alone.' The vehicle stopped as the window rolled down. Thea stopped and peered in the vehicle to see Slade Wilson sitting there.
'Mr. Wilson?' Thea asked. He opened the door for her and she got into the vehicle.
'Please. Call me Slade.' She sat in the seat, utterly mystified by the mysterious man's seemingly kind gesture.
Had to make this one really short!! Set up suspense for the next chapter!!
