Chapter Ten: Trigger

He stayed away from the herd, distancing himself from any socialization in order to gain a strength that could take out the entire pack. Observing, pinpointing a weakness to use it against you later, like a puppet on a string, he orchestrated your every move. He was a lonely alpha leader, secretly desperate to have someone by his side for security of his true emotions. He wasn't used to working around humans, and therefore, has an aggression to him, able to charge with no remorse because to him, no other has vehemence. He only saw red.

He was a bull.

"Nash," I called.

He was standing in the entrance of the room, staring at the scene before him, waiting to make a move. His dark eyes were targeting his main surprise, he was caught off guard. His eyes left hers, only to find mine, peering at him like I had so many times before.

"I don't want to fight," I called aloud again.

Aria was still behind me, I could hear her hitched breathing ever so slightly, while she tried to remain calm. Although I didn't directly see her, her energy was loud. I had never seen her so scared before, and I was trying everything in me to keep it together, although I was enraged. I pushed the thoughts of what he could have done to her, away and out of my mind.

I had to focus if I was going to ensure her safety. As long as she was okay, I didn't care about anything else that was going to happen.

She was close behind me, and I subtly moved my arm backwards ever so slightly, to where the tips of my fingers met hers, a form of comfort. She enclosed the tips of her fingers with the tips of mine, securely holding onto me.

The contact infuriated Nash.

"Don't be mindless, Eli, we're not married," Nash spoke, then dropped his amused smile into a flattened tone. His eyes flickered into a glare. "Aria," He sang. "Come out from hiding, sweet girl."

She gasped, but it was only audible for my ears. She didn't move at first, unsure what to do. I knew he wasn't going to hurt her yet; Nash liked the dramatics, he wouldn't end things so quickly. No, he wanted me to suffer - he was going to drag this along as far as he could before he ripped me to pieces.

But how?

I let go of her finger tips as a subtle hint to face him. I didn't want her to, I wanted to snap my fingers and make her disappear.

She slowly came into view, and stood about a foot behind me, in perfect eyeshot of Nash.

He stared at her momentarily, and while he did, she let out a long breath of air. While his eyes were on her, I had my full focus on him, taking in any detail I could, anything to use in my defense.

He looked clean and well put together, but noticing the minor details of his face, I could tell it was only for show. He was tired, and he was showing a form of remorse but I couldn't depicture on why that would be. He had no emotions towards other people. Something had to have happened to hurt him, or put the fear in him that he may not be in charge anymore. But what?

My eyes flickered to his forehead, portraying the slightest of wrinkles from lack of hydration and staying up longer than he should. He wasn't sweating, he was angry. His eyes, staring at her, were something I hadn't seen in him before. He was looking at her, as if he were splintered.

He hadn't thought his next move yet, which had me panicked.

I won't let him hurt you anymore, babygirl.

"I have to give you credit, you're one hell of an actress," He spoke with a simple nod. "You had me fooled."

"I guess you're just not as clever as you think you are," Aria insulted, her voice clean and crisp. She held no emotion in her words.
