Chapter 30: Room

I had an unlit smoke in my mouth, aching for it to glow orange and fill my lungs in sweet chemicals.

Aria told me it was a good idea to see exactly what we were looking at for the health of my father. I didn't want anything to do with it, but there was something about her persuasiveness that made me fold instantly. Perhaps I felt bad for ditching her on day one of trip to go on a coke spree in a cemetery.

She was walking ahead of me, her black jeans with rips in the front held her ass nicely and the tank top she had on was tight fitted and swooped down her lower back. Although her long caramel hair covered some of the features of her skin, she looked like a model. She could have been a model if she wasn't so short, I'm sure.

She glanced behind her shoulder and made eye contact. "You going to put that thing away or just torture yourself?" She teased and continued walking.

"It's my security blanket," I grumbled. I hated hospitals and I hated this town.

Aria signed us both in moments ago, taking control of the operation because we both knew that if she let me take charge, nothing would happen.

Her palm warmly touched the side of the doctor's arm where his white jacket rested. Normally people would have an issue with being touched when they're in such high profiles but she was able to get away with most anything and even worse, make it seem so natural.

"Miss Winter, correct?" The doctor greeted her with a nice smile. He was likely in his thirties which to most people would think he's very smart and impressed, but to me, I felt as though he was underqualified.

"Aria, hi," She corrected. "And this is Eli." She motioned towards me.

"The son, yes," The doctor went to reach for my hand.

I raised an eyebrow and nodded at him. "The son," I repeated with as little sarcasm as I could muster to avoid Aria glaring at me. I shook his clammy hand.

The doctor averted his eyes back to Aria. "I'm sure you both are aware of the seriousness of Rodney's condition," He paused. "He's positive for severe liver damage caused by excessive alcohol consumption." He glanced at my smoke then looked in between us, staring at nothing. "At-At this stage, he's facing very life-threatening complications. Does alcoholism run in the family?""

"Is this reversable?" Aria asked politely.

"Not by itself, nor with the treatments we've been trying to give him," The doctor answered.

"So, he's going to die then," I muttered, taking the smoke out of my mouth. Aria glanced to me, causing me to side eye her back. She looked very pretty today.

"Well," He interjected. "The only thing we can do at this time is hope for a transplant."

I laughed at the thought. "That'd be a waste," I smirked. The new liver would be poisoned the second he was released from the hospital.

He cleared his throat. "Elias- Eli," He corrected and turned towards me. "I was able to look through our records and find yours in our system of when you used to live here. His blood type is AB Negative, while the rarest of blood types there is, you share it."

I frowned. "You're serious?" I asked. "Is this why you brought me down here? to save his life?" I stepped back.

"I-I don't know what-"

"-"Let him rot," I spat.

I walked away from them but I heard Aria asking the doctor for a minute. I put the smoke back in my mouth and let her catch up to me.
