Chapter 34
Sparkling white flakes of snow slashed at my face peacefully as the gusts of wind circled around my being. My thick, beat-up boots persistently continued on as the snow grew deeper as I climbed higher. I was cold and my mind seemingly confused as I continued on my journey but I didn't care. I was at the top of the highest mountain peak, looking down toward the horizon in front of me. I caught my breath, the wind picking up as I was higher than the clouds. Looking down at my skin, I was purple and naked. My toes wiggled in the violent white powder, unable to feel them anymore. My once peaceful breath was now a suffocating feeling of my lungs frozen and unable to gasp of relief. At a panicked state, the breeze pushed me off of the cliff and I found myself falling. My eyes stared up at the sky above me, becoming more distant as the snowflakes snickered at my inevitable death.
"New Fish!" I heard by several different inmates as I walked down the line in shackles. My ankles were bruised by the cuffs digging into my bones and my wrists were red with restraint.
"New fish!" They called again, laughing and terrorizing the newcomers. I was a giant neon sign, wearing bright orange as the settled in guests were dressed in grey. I had four policemen beside me at all times as I was destined to go to maximum security.
I had already gone through security where they stripped me down and made me cough in a squat. My vile comments towards the guards had me in worse trouble as now I was known for someone who was going to cause altercations.
They took my piercings, my rings, my chain, and my weapons.
The reality was that I had to rely on Aria to get me help and that was an unsettling thought.
She was about to learn of the works of Vivian Grace which in turn was about to unravel a lot of secrets that I kept her protected from.
I'd have been here five days. Not only have I been here five days, but I was not allowed or able to see a single person in that fives days since I walked through the yard. I had been placed in my six by eight feet cell by myself for twenty-three hours a day with the only exception to leave to take a shower.
I kept reminding myself that I was strong. I was strong and I was preparing for this. I was strong and I was doing this for Aria.
Being alone for ninety-nine percent of the time, stuck in a barred cell with no distractions, only your thoughts, was a lot more horrifying than one could ever imagine. I had been arrested before, many times. I've spent days in jail before, but it was never like this. It was always in a pod with people, or in a cell where I was fucked up on drugs or released quickly enough that I didn't have to think.
Here was different. Here forced the inner demons to come out from the deepest shadows of your brain.
I felt defeated here. My chest constantly felt like it was collapsing in on itself. My leg grew tired from bouncing it up and down in and endless need to release tension. My breathing was attempting to remain calm but the reality would hit me all over again, and I found myself suffering.
I had to live with the fact that I did this to myself. And now I had to deal with it by myself.
It was on the sixth day that they took mercy on me and let me out of my cell, down to the exercise court yard to socialize with other felons as if we were the same.
Just before entering, they removed my ankle cuffs, hand cuffs, and waist chains. The guard grabbed my shoulder and roughly turned me toward him.
"Now listen here," He hushed with an authoratative tone. "It's your lucky day. Two hours outside, not a minute more. If something goes south, its at your expense. Don't expect to see this place for a long time, you hear?"
