Chapter 34: Onwards to Takigakure!

Naruto P.O.V

He groans as the sound of a shower stirs him to consciousness, the dim light of early morning seeping from behind the curtains. He sits up and stretches, last night had been great, sure Gaara isn't much of a conversationalist but, his eyes can be very expressive when they want to be, it was like he was learning a secret language that only he could understand. He looks at Gaara's bed next to his, it was of course not used, though he could tell the redhead had at least sat or sprawled on top of it, and now clearly Gaara was in the shower...he quickly shakes off the thought.

They had a big day ahead of them, they will be heading towards Takigakuri, and he has to send off some fox clones to deliver his three letters that he managed to do last night, he was a little worried about Fu's still, but Gaara assured him that it was fine.

"It will be fine kid, even if things with Fu don't work out, being a nomad wouldn't be that bad, it will probably be harder to track you too, and harder to catch you since you will always be on the move, it's probably just the more tiring option and stressful" Kurama says finally arising from whatever grave he crawled out of.

"Kurama!? Where the hell have you been!? You have barely said a word to me lately you stupid fox!" he accuses the fox in annoyance.

Kurama just snorts "Well sorry for getting some shut eye, and for not wanting to join you and your new friend in your sap fest that you two had going since we got here. Seriously it's enough to make me gag, you're just so obvious, it's absolutely cringe" Kurama complains.

"Eh!?" he blushes in embarrassment "Oh..s-shut up! What brings you to me now anyway??" he asks.

"Well, multiple reasons really, the most pressing one is that I felt a somewhat familiar chakra signature enter the village not long ago and the shinobi feels strong, so I suggest that you have your shower and then leave as soon as you can. Another thing is your training, you still have to undergo your training with me in order to help you master my power...so you might want to somehow try to include that into your schedule, you haven't even mastered your mothers jutsu yet, not completely anyway.." Kurama explains seriously.

"Someone is already on to us?? seriously?? who do you think it is?" he asks the fox, only paying attention to the first part of what the fox said.

"Hmm...I haven't sensed this chakra signature in quite a long time...but I have a feeling that it is one of the Legendary Sannin, my current guess is Jiraiya, he would be the most likely bet, pretty sure he runs some kind of spy network all over the place. Oh..and I should probably mention that he is your Godfather...he was your fathers sensei back in the day I'm pretty sure.." Kurama explains as if he hadn't just pulled out a bombshell.

"What!?" he accidentally shouts out loud, causing the noise of the shower to stop immediately and for Gaara to pop his head in through the door, his damp red hair now a dark maroon colour clinging to his forehead.

"Naruto...what's wrong?..." Gaara asks his dark ringed eyes alert and ready.

He blushes at the sight and then scratches the back of his head in embarrassment "Ah sorry about that, I was just talking to Kurama, long story short.." he takes a deep breath "someone is already on to us so we need to leave as soon as we can, that somebody being one of the Legendary Sannin and apparently my Godfather" he manages to explain in one breath.

Gaara just blinks "I'll get ready as fast as I can, you get ready too.." Gaara says urgently before going back into the bathroom.

He sighs 'so much for having a relaxing shower..'.

Jiraiya P.O.V

He sighs as he finally makes it to Tanigakure, after finding the boy's little camp in the cave, as well as a nasty surprise inside...probably the Gaara kids doing...he can't imagine Minato's son doing something like that...but then again...he barely knows the kid. He was lucky to find that spot near the border of the Land of Rivers, thanks to being a toad sage he is able to use frogs and toads to help track and keep tabs on his enemies...however...Naruto isn't just some enemy he needs to track down...no...Naruto was the Fourth Hokage's son and his Godson...Minato's young genin face flashes into his mind as well as an array of questions. He knows that the Hokage expects him to try and keep his feelings for the boy at bay during this mission, but it's easier said than done...his guilt for not being there being the apex of his emotions.
