Guys...I know it's been 50 years since I've updated. I'm not dead, luckily! Sorry for the wait!

Things have settled down for the most part. Nanami and I are going to school, occasionally dealing with that jerk Kurama. One thing that hasn't stopped are the strange dreams I have. They seem to have gotten more and more frequent ever since I met Tomoe.

And these dreams? They're haunting. All I can see are ice cold eyes.

I sink back into the dream world once again.

"Who are you?" someone asks me.

I give him a defiant glare, refusing to answer. He glares right back, but all I can see are his beautiful, dark blue eyes--not his face.

"Not going to talk, I see," he remarks. My face heats up. Something about his gaze makes me nervous. "Do you work for Akura ou?" I ask suspiciously. "I am not his servant." He laughs. "Though, I was planning on doing him a favor," he glances at me, "...but I don't feel like it anymore."In the distance, I hear the loud sound of a gong. He looks up towards the sky. "I need to be going," he says.

Wait! Who are you!? I want to call after him, but the scene quickly fades, and suddenly I'm in a dark forest. I cannot move the slightest bit.

A figure shrouded in shadow walks down the forest path towards me. "You've got nowhere to go now. That dart that I threw into your leg was dipped in poison that will paralyze you," he says.

"Why are you doing this?" I ask, my voice wavering. He laughs. "Because Akura ou ordered me to," he brandishes a dagger, coming toward me."Please, no," I beg.

But he's only getting closer. "No! Please-" He reaches for me and I close my eyes in fear. What's he going to do to me?

The slash of a sword is all I hear. The scene fades and suddenly I'm in a dark room. I look above me to see Tomoe. He's pinning me down. His eyes are cruel. They're nothing like the Tomoe I know. "How shall I kill you?" he asks.

I try to escape his grip, but he's too strong. "No! Tomoe wouldn't do this!" I cry.

He pulls me up by the collar. He speaks, but the voice is distorted and demonic. "How do you know that, little girl? Tomoe wasn't always a devoted familiar. He was a feared, murderous, wild fox, and he and wouldn't hesitate to slit your throat!"

What was once Tomoe morphs into a hideous monster. It's hands close around my neck.

"Let me go!" I cry.

It's grip on my neck tightens. I struggle to breath. "No! Please, stop-"

"(Y/n)!" a faraway voice calls.

Tomoe?

"(Y/n), wake up!"

My eyes flash open and I gasp for breath. Tomoe stops shaking me, but he's still holding my shoulders. Panic sets in. "No, let go of me!" I say as I thrash about under him.

"(Y/n), calm down. I'm not going to hurt you," he says reassuringly. His eyes...they're nothing like the ones in my nightmare. That wasn't him, (Y/n). I bring my hands to my face, feeling hot tears on my cheeks.

"I'm sorry for freaking out like that. I just had a bad dream." I say in a shaky voice as I attempt to wipe away the tears streaming down my face.

"It's okay, (Y/n). Just breathe," he says, helping me sit up.

I slowly settle down, taking deep breaths. Why is he being so nice to me?

"Here, have some tea," he says, handing me a mug of the steaming liquid.

"Where did you even get that from?" I say.

Tomoe huffs in frustration. "Just drink it, for heaven's sake!" he says.

I let out a small laugh and gratefully take a sip of the tea. "Well, thank you, Tomoe. This means a lot to me." For a fleeting moment, I think I see his cheeks flushed, but he immediately looks away.

"It is my duty as your familiar, Lady (Y/n)." Of course he would say that.

"Tomoe, why are you awake at this hour?" I ask.

"I was sleeping, actually. I suddenly woke up and felt that something was wrong so I came to check on you."

I raise an eyebrow at him. "Oh, so you were worried about me?" I say teasingly.

"Absolutely not. But how am I supposed to sleep when my idiot goddess is restless?"

"Who are you calling idiot, fox?!"

Tomoe's suddenly picks up the blanket. "Uh oh, someone's grumpy. I think it's time for you to go back to sleep," he says, attempting to pull the blanket over me.

"Stop! You're going to spill the tea!"

"Night night, it's sleepy time!" he says with an evil grin.

I manage to put down the mug and I grab hold of the blanket. "And just when I thought you were actually decent!" I say, yanking the blanket out of his grip. When he attempts to reach for it I wrestle him to the ground.

"Get off me, annoying girl," he grunts, flipping us over so that I'm pinned under him. I lay against the ground, him looming over me as we both pant from the exertion.

He gazes at me with an unreadable expression, and for the first time, he looks unsure of himself. I breathe heavily, searching his face for an emotion. What does he think of me? Am I just some weak, wannabe goddess to him? Or am I-

"OMG! WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING?!!" a high pitched voice screeches.

Tomoe immediately pulls away from me, startled. Nanami stares at us with wide eyes from her futon.

"Oh, come on! Of course she just has to wake up at this exact moment!" Tomoe complains.

Nanami jumps up, running to embrace me. "My poor, poor (Y/n). Was that creeper trying to make a move on you?!" she says, giving Tomoe a glare.

I just laugh as Tomoe runs his hands through his hair in annoyance. "Creeper? Me? I can't believe you two." he says.

The shrine spirits burst into the room. "What is all this commotion about??" They ask.

"Just two idiots who don't know how to sleep causing trouble."

"Whatever! It's almost morning anyway," Nanami exclaims.

"Yeah, you're not our dad, foxy," I smirk.

Tomoe simply scowls at me and leaves the room. Nanami and I laugh as we get ready for school.
