The team gathered at the police station the next day before splitting. Emily had a meeting with the technical analyst, Reid was working on the map while everyone else went to the field.
"Here's what we know. The unsub is a white male, mid-30s. Above average build and lives within 10 miles of the park. So not much right now but there will be more by tonight." Emily said. She had an online meeting with Martha Phillips, recommended by Penelope.
"Okay. I can start making a list of people that fit that description. Let me know what else you find."
Emily left to meet up with JJ and Rossi, they were going over victimology. "He takes women with official jobs. Lawyer, surgeon, psychologist, police chief." They were saying when she walked in.
"What if he got rejected by a woman with a high level job? If he's a narcissist, he would take out his anger on someone else." JJ offered.
At the end of the day, Emily called Martha and added all the info to the profile. The list, originally having over 70 names, was shortened to 8.
The team wanted to enjoy dinner together so Matt picked up take out. They all crashed in Emily and JJ's room as they ate. Obviously, they couldn't stop talking about the case.
"If I were the unsub what would I need?" Tara asked. "Well in order to keep the women as long as he does, a house with a basement. It's highly unlikely he has a family." Reid answered.
Martha was on the phone and started looking. After talking for another hour they narrowed it to one man. Ian Walsh, he was rejected by the first victim.
They got their stuff together and left to get the unsub. They took two cars to the address as Emily called in the locals. She split the team up and they arrested the unsub without a struggle.
"I think we all deserve drinks after this case." Luke said. Emily ordered them to go back to the hotel, they could leave in the morning.
When the girls got back to their hotel room they started cleaning. There were still boxes everywhere, no one had time to throw them away.
As soon as they were done, JJ turned on a movie. But she immediately regretted it. Safe House was playing on the tv but Emily couldn't change it fast enough.
It was the scene where Denzel Washington gets waterboarded and JJ froze. Emily was in the bathroom when she heard the tv turn on. She could see JJ in a mirror and saw her holding her throat.
She ran out and looked at the tv. Shit. Her hand grabbed the remote and shut it off. "JJ?" She asked. She moved the JJ's side and held her tight.
"Hey it's ok. You're ok." She whispered. JJ had her hand around her throat and was desperately holding it. Emily held onto her wrist and rubbed her hair.
"You're gonna be okay JJ. I'm right here." She repeated. Emily looked over at her phone but it was out of reach.
"Here I can call Will. He can help." But JJ refused. "No, just please stay here." She cried. It was the first thing she had said in a long time. Emily hugged her tighter and JJ started talking.
"I couldn't breathe. It was like he was doing it again." Emily continued rubbing her hair and waiting for her to talk, they've done this before.
"I was back there Emily. In the basement. I can't do this." She breathed.
"You can and you will." Emily replied. JJ closed her eyes and sank into Emily's chest. She felt comfortable and safe and never wanted to leave.
They sat there for over 20 minutes, not making a sound. Just there. Emily sat up and started to get JJ up. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm fine."
Liar. I'm fine basically means I need help but don't want to ask. JJ knew it didn't work and tried to explain it.
"It was like I saw myself on that screen. Getting waterboarded. I couldn't separate the two." She stated. Emily knew it was the truth and started to get up.
"Don't. I don't want to be alone." JJ said. Emily listened and they sank back to where they were. They both knew it was wrong, but it was needed.
