Let the neighbors think we're crazy, I'm moving back! Walking through our house brings back so much memories. Now, I'm not one who wants to go sit and do nothing again, I still want to work while raising this baby. So instead I found a hobby. Writing.
"So Louis is your child now?" Grace asks us where we're all seated around the table. I nod with a smile and take my glass of wine.
"And I didn't even had to make him," I mutter and take a sip.
"You two are so complicated," Henry says shaking his head. Don starts to laugh across from the table and sit forward reaching his hand out to touch Louis that Louisa is holding.
"So are you getting back together?" Mamie asks. I raise an eyebrow at her then look at Don. He looks at me as well and shrugs his shoulders.
"To admit, I am starting to get hungry," he says.
"Ew, dad," Grace says and grab her face.
"What? I hadn't had any in I think eight months if not more and I'm not talking about Louis's real mother," Don says and wink at me. I put my gkass down choking on my spit when I wanted to say something.
"Wait a fucking second!" Louisa shout out and look terrified at me. "Mom! You two are divorced!"
"I know that," I say in defense and sigh. "It was three years since I had any myself."
"I would very much like to be excluded in this conversation," Henry says awkwardly. I laugh softly and touch his hand.
"No darling. Your dad and I are just trying to be good parents to Louis now," I say and look at Don that gets up from his seat and walk around to me. "And what the hell are you doing?"
"I know we've been away from each other for a very long time now and there's been a lot of damage," he says and get on his knees next to my seat. I push my chair out and turn to him. This better be good. "The divorce, cheating and I'm too busy parts, but Louis can't be the only reason we're together."
"We are not together," I correct him looking at the children in embarrassment then back at Don.
"I love you," he says and place his hands on my thighs. I grow quiet and just stare at him. "I love you, Meryl. I want to take you out of town to that dusty old road and dance with you around midnight, I want you to throw slush puppy on me again and just like that night when I took your hand and you told me you're scared. I want that, Meryl. I want you."
"Don, I'm not the same person I was," I whisper and shake my head with tears in my eyes. Damn, he's got a pretty good memory. "I changed. You changed as well."
"Cut the crap, M. I'm your husband. You think didn't notice that? I don't care what changed, it's still you," he says. This got pretty serious now, didn't it. "Come on, Meryl. Let's just do this all over again. This time we do it better. I won't break, I'll stand strong for the both of us and carry you through whatever obstacle."
"I love you," I cry and grab his face kissing him. He kisses me back. The kids cheer happily and talk underneath each other.
"Now we don't have to explain anything to the kids," he whispers in my ear when I hugged him.

I'm finally happy. This is my happy story. This is my story.
