We pulled up to a small diner parking lot where five other expensive cars sat, Their drivers standing around talking. It appeared I was the only girl and that was fine..

Kellan climbed out of the car and I quickly followed. My brother was my closest friend. He was always there when I needed him and he knew, today, I needed him. I watched him as he greeted his friends, each in a different way, and smiled. Everything was easy for him, making friends, meeting new people, having a carefree life, all easy for him. And as his older sister, I was glad he was happy, I just wished I could be like him.

"Guys this is my sister, Elliot. El, this is the guys." I waved at each of them and then they all went back to their conversations, none of them glancing my way longer than a brief hello, except for one. His eyes lingered with a smile as he added a few words here and there to the conversation. I leaned against my brother's car and stared off into the night.

"Hey" A voice called from next to me. turning i met the emerald eyes of one of Kellan's friends.

" hi."

"You're dressed pretty fancy for a night out with some car guys." He told me and I couldn't help but laugh as I looked down at my fluffy skirt

"Yea, well, I had other plans for tonight but those didn't work out. I kinda didn't have time to change before I left." I told him hoping he would pry into my vagueness.

"That sucks. I could take you for a ride if you'd like. Riding with the windows down and the wind blowing in your face can be very therapeutic "

I nodded "actually that doesn't sound too bad" and followed him to his car, watching as the muscles of his back flexed beneath his fitted white shirt. He was much taller than me, which honestly didn't say much since I was 5 ft even, but he had to be at least a foot taller than me. He looked back over his shoulder, twisting at the waist to wave at my brother and the rest of his friends. Our eyes met for a moment and he smiled. I looked down at my feet quickly, feeling bashful for no reason. He yelled out that we'd be back in a few minutes just as we reached his car. Instead of getting into the car right away, he leaned up against the driver's side door with his arms folded on the roof and looked at me.

" If I drive too fast and scare you, just scream." He instructed. He leaned back to open his door before hesitating and looking at me once again. With a smile, he said, " I'm Milo, by the way."

After opening his door he slid into the leather seat. I followed suit, sitting in the comfortable black leather passenger seat. His car roared to life and if I wasn't used to my brother's sports car, it would have started me. Then he sped out of the diner and into the street. I had to admit He wasn't wrong, The wind blowing through my hair, whipping it back and forth felt freeing. The night was so black and we went so fast. I glanced over at Milo once and noticed how happy he was behind the wheel and racing down the streets. He seemed to know every twist and turn the road threw at him. I could lie and say watching him shift gears wasn't sexy. And for the first time I actually looked at him, the guy was beautiful. His skin was tanned and his hazel eyes had more green than brown. Wavy black hair stuck out of his backward trucker hat. Tattoos formed a patchwork of black up both forearms and probably up past his short sleeves. I had never considered tattoos to be something attractive but for some reason, they held my attention on Milo. I stopped my eyes from making it past his grey sweatpants, my mind however had plenty of questions as to what was under there.

I shook my head and forced my eyes away from his body, instead I tried to focus on the passing scenery out my window. Mentally I scolded myself for the dumb thoughts I conjured. I was married, unhappily yes but on top of that, I was turning 30 in a few weeks and I knew any friend of my brothers had to be at least 5 years younger than me. Too soon, I noticed we were pulling into the diner parking lot.

"Was that fun?" He asked beaming, clearly proud of his car.

"So much, thank you. It definitely took my mind off of things."

"Any time. Gimmie your phone." He told me, confidently sticking his hand out yet I hesitated.

I knew Evan would absolutely explode if he saw a guy's name in my phone. I wasn't ready to tell him I was married, that came with so much more to explain. Milo sensed my hesitation immediately and cleared his throat.

"Listen Elliott, I dunno what kinda situation you've got at home, but you look like you could use a friend or two. Any friend of Kellan is a friend of mine who I'd also do anything for. He's family, more so than just a friend. So if you'd like a friend, give me your phone and you can save my number under any name you want ." My mouth dropped open a bit, how'd he know that's what my hesitation was about. Slowly I handed him my unlocked phone. He took it with a smile, typed his number then handed it back. I glanced down at the screen open to his contact information, which had no name, waiting for me to add it.

" don't hesitate, anytime you want me to take your mind off things, text me" He exclaimed before climbing out of his car to meet the rest of the group.

A few more cars had shown up while we were gone and the diner had officially closed, the final waitress and cook leaving with a wave to Milo and Kellan. That's when the fun started around here apparently, a few guys got in their cars and headed out to the road to start racing. I glanced down at my phone again thinking of what to save his number under, for a while, before simply settling on 'M'. I watched everyone laugh and have fun around me. It was hard to feel In the moment with the evening I'd had. But I was glad to be with my brother and safe.

I glanced around the parking lot at the small crowd that had formed. my eyes drifted over each person before landing on Milo, our eyes somehow locking on each other. He was standing near the street with a smile on his face. I couldn't help but smile at him, he was infectious. I was drawn to him and I wasn't sure why. He was the complete opposite from my husband, tall and muscular, with long wavy hair on the top of his head and almost shaved sides. The hair caught my eyes first, as he lifted off his hat to run his hand through the tangles then slide it back on. He was definitely hot, with his defined jawline and beautiful smile. His eyes sparkled under the street lamps.

Finally, around 4 am Kellan and I left. I couldn't quit thinking about Milo and his smile and everything about him. That tiny bit of attention was causing my body to crave being touched and so much more. I wondered how much he actually did know about me being friends with Kellan. We had always been close but I'd never hung out with him and his friends until tonight. While I didn't share how bad things were with Evan, I wouldn't be surprised if Milo did know about some aspects from Kellan.

"Are you going to be ok?" Kellan asked as he pulled Into his driveway.

" yea" was all I managed to say. What could I say? I hated the fact that he had to take care of me.

"El, this isn't something you can fix," the use of my childhood nickname made tears form, clouding my vision. "You can't fix him, he doesn't want to and you don't need to, just leave him."

"He'd kill me" I whispered, knowing it's true. No matter how hard I tried to keep them in, a traitorous tear slid down my cheek.

"All the more reason. Look, this shit isn't ok."

I didn't respond to him. I knew he was right and it made my heartbreak. I climbed out of his car and headed inside. He was my little brother and he shouldn't be taking care of me and cleaning up my messes.

I grabbed a pair of Kellan's sweatpants that swallowed me and laid on his guest bed. My mind wandered to the night I had and how happy I had felt. Then it wandered to Milo and the feeling I got in my stomach when he looked at me when he smiled as he sped through the darkened roads. I fell asleep wondering how stupid I was for having these thoughts about my brother's best friend who I didn't even know.
