Somewhere in the Hoenn region, heat reigned supreme. Amidst the rocks and powerful machinery hid Team Magma

The team that wanted to bring more land to the region. The team that was carefully crafting their every move

And the very team whose representatives were in a meeting

Courtney, Tabitha, and their leader Maxie were going over the details of their next plan. A heist involving a submarine

The former, a methodical, almost inhuman at times, was finding it difficult to concentrate due not only to the immense heat of their base, but her own uniform as well

If anything it could be argued it was better for a much colder environment

Fortunately, she was not alone in this fight, for she had a little tool at her disposal

One that was now getting the attention of her superior, Maxie

"As you can see here. If we strike now we can..."

He stopped at the light sound of flapping, and when he turned around, he found Courtney with her hood down and holding a little fan

"...what is that, Courtney?"

With that same expressionless look, she glanced at him

"It's...a fan, sir...I apologize if it's...too distracting..."

He took notice of the blue object, with a small Wingull painted on it. Crafted manually by the merchants of Hoenn, by the looks of it

"Where did you get that?"

She stopped her movements to look at the fan. Inevitably, her memory brought her back to that night

...

"I got you a little something. You do like gifts, don't you?"

Courtney found herself walking along the shore of Lilycove City with you. The stars and the calmness of the waves worked together in harmony to bring her a deeply relaxing atmosphere

And of course, there was the company

"Depends...is it useful...?"

She took a discrete glance at you. She wasn't looking at the fierce detective hellbent on bringing her organization down

But rather, a synonym for calm and happiness

What began as a rivalry continued to evolve into something she couldn't quite categorize, and while it annoyed her to no end, it was also the source of a strange warmth

"In your case? I don't doubt it is"

She raised a brow

"Oh?"

You revealed your hands to her and with it, the Wingull-themed fan. She stared at it as you handed it to her

"A...fan"

You just nodded

"Thought you might find it useful. Seeing as you probably work inside a volcano or something"

This comment earned a light chuckle from her, and with a smile, she took it

"Maybe, maybe not"

...

"It was...a gift, sir"

Maxie stared at her for a moment before he hummed and returned his attention to the board behind him

Shortly after, Tabitha leaned over to whisper

"You uhh, you think I could use it too?"

"Absolutely not"

The admin groaned before he returned his attention to Maxie. Courtney, on the other hand, stared at the object in her hands

It wasn't made with durable materials

Nor was it an intricate design

And yet...

It was, without a doubt, her biggest treasure
