Blue, purple, and pink shined upon the scene, the crowds roared with anticipation and even music was blasting in the background
Sitting on the stage, however, was the gym leader, the one who had just been in charge for about a month
And she still had no idea of what she was doing
"Still don't know how I got this far. I'm just here 'cause Piers wanted me to"
She sighed, looking down at one of her PokeBalls, gripping it as if it was going to fall
She had been chosen by her brother, the previous gym leader. Even if it had been a while, Marnie still didn't know how to feel about it
That's when she felt herself being pulled lightly towards you, you wrapped one arm around her and smiled as you looked at the area where the Pokemon fought
"You know, Marnie, before you, some people didn't consider Spikemuth to be a real thing"
Intrigued, she turned to look at you
"Whether it was the reluctance to use Dynamax or the appearance of this place, I saw people talking about this place"
Then, you looked back at her, meeting her eyes as you continued to talk
"But when they saw you out there, on your way to challenge the champion, of all people, everyone shut up, and they watched"
You jumped down and offered her a hand, accompanied by a gentle smile
" You're not here because your brother chose you, darling. You're here because you've proven yourself as one of Galar's finest, I think it's about time you acknowledge it"
The girl felt her cheeks warm up at this complement, something so rare coming from you, and finally, she took your hand
Members of Team Yell approached the gym, some shouting, some others clapping, and surrounding them was s young girl, wearing the challenger uniform
Marnie stared at the distance, remaining silent for a couple of seconds
"Y/N?"
"Yes?"
"Do you mean it?"
You just smiled, handing her the PokeBall she was looking for
"Every word"
Finally, Marnie looked at you, and she smiled
"All I needed to hear"
And with that, she took the PokeBall and walked towards the challenger
"Alright. Welcome to Spikemuth gym..."
"I'm the gym leader, Marnie"
