Chapter eighteen || Hearts and Mentors

(Apologies, this chapter is late a n d on the shorter side 🥲 oh not to mention I edited it last minute so it's very late in the night for me so I'm tired... overall this chapter just had a lot of bumps along the road and I apologize)

You're woken up at the crack of dawn by a certain fairy hovering over your bed poking your face. "Y/n~" They pinch your cheek and shake your face. "Y/n." When you still don't wake up he gets frustrated and reel back their hand to slap you. "Y/N!"

They make a surprised noise as you grab the front of their shirt roughly. "What could you possibly need this goddamn early in the morning."

"Wah, training! TRAINING!" They yell arms held protectively over their face.

You let go and curl yourself back up in the blankets. "Go away."

"Nooo you need to train!" You lift the blanket enough to glare into beetles soul. "O-or maybe you can rest a little more." He shoves the blanket back down and flee from the room.

Hours later at the tavern, you take it upon yourself to keep Achilles in its third form all throughout your shift. "Miss Y/n?"

"Yea Escanor?" You say not looking up from the table that you're cleaning.

"I wish to speak with you after today's shift."

"What about?"

"Your power, weak as it is, is still much like my own. Therefore I wish to lend you my wisdom even if you can never hope to match me."

You give him a bored look from over your shoulder. "Y'know what? Why not, I'll meet you outside after my shift ends."

"By the way, Achilles seems to have de-transformed." With that he walks away leaving you to twist and turn trying to catch a glimpse of the weapon that was previously strapped to your back. Instead you find the earring on the ground, with a sigh you place it back into your back in full scythe form.

"That brings you to a total of five Y/n." Gowther chimes in, you had asked him to keep track of every time you messed up.

"Thank you Gowther." You say in a defeated tone.

Having changed out of your uniform you walk out of the tavern to meet Escanor. "Alright Escanor, what is it?"

"Oo-oOO hold on!" Your attention is drawn to the annoying fairy you just met. "I need to borrow Achilles please."

"For why?"

"Well I was talking with Merlin and we thing we can make a few adjustments that would be helpful in the long run."

You turn your gaze to Escanor. "Are we going to need my sacred treasure for your little expedition?"

"No."

"Alright sure." You take out the earring and hand it to beetle.

"If you'll follow me this way so we can get to what I asked you here for."

A curious doll walks into merlins study unannounced. "Merlin, I have a favour to ask of you."

But she is caught up with working on something with beetle. "Hold on Gowther I'm preoccupied at the moment."

"It will only take a second,... please?"

"I can't right now."

'Hm, that usually works with Y/n.' "I think I might have wood bugs and I need you to check for me."
