Espeon's point of view

"So you aren't as selfish as I thought… if you hadn't almost undermined everything I was trying to do I might be a little proud of you."

My eyes opened and I was immediately aware that I wasn't in reality. I recognized it as my mind, my subconscious, a white nothingness that I had grown more and more familiar with.

"Good, you're aware of me. I guess that's only fair since the opposite is true of you." Spoke the voice again.

My ears pinpointed the source of my mental intruder and I turned my head to see a surprise. Even with the circumstances I couldn't help but smirk at the irony of the situation "Azelf… I'm honored."

"Cut the act Requiem, you know why I'm here." Responded the legendary controller of willpower "Did you think I wouldn't notice you peeking into information you have no right to know?"

"Requiem… you know me by my old name?" I asked as I took a step closer to the blue mew-like creature "How?"

"The same way you know about Night's task and the same way I'm talking with you right now." Answered Azelf "I'm a psychic same as you, more powerful clearly, but in the same vein. And you… you shouldn't have ever known what you know about Arceus."

I quickly recalled the dire state of the god Pokémon "What happened to her, all I know is that she's hurt and-"

Azelf raised a hand "Wait, are you seriously asking questions? You already know too much… your ambition almost got you killed in that cave and you want to know more?"

"Arceus is important-"

"To the world?" sounded Azelf "Of course."

"And to me…. personally."

"Look Requiem-"

"That's not my name anymore."

"Espeon then… I'm here to tell you that you've gotten yourself involved with this. Lucky for you Mewtwo is more than happy to accept your help."

I laughed "I'm sorry, what?"

"You'll help Night with his mission. Now that you know that Arceus' life is at stake I'm sure you'll do all in your power to assist." Replied the psychic with a confident tone.

"What if I don't want to?" I asked "I'm a busy Espeon."

"I'm sure destroying families by taking memories from random Pokémon is very hard work but understand this. Arceus is dying, but she's still aware of things. If you two have some personal connection, I'm sure she'd be hurt if you chose to deny her your help."

I went silent… he was right.

"And also." Added Azelf "If you say no to me then Mewtwo might give you a visit. And trust me, he's a lot less willing to forgive you for your past transgressions than I am."

I nodded reluctantly. My quest was to gain knowledge to fight my enemies, and what better source of knowledge was there than the Legendary Pokémon themselves? I'd help Night with his goal, save Arceus, and then ask all the questions I needed to become the smartest non-legendary alive. A smile slid onto my face "I'll do it."

"That is what I love to hear Espeon!" exclaimed Azelf as he floated up to me "Now… keep this on the down low for the time being. You can talk to Night about this, but that is it understand?"

"Yes."

"Great, and especially don't let the Vulpix know okay?"

My interest got higher "Vulpix? The one traveling with Night? What about the fox is so important. She didn't have anything special that jumped out."
