Chapter 13 - One Hour

It wasn't a nightmare.

I remember everything all so clearly.

I remember waking up with a sharp pain in my stomach and I just vomited to the side. No one else to comfort me and when I thought that Lumine was probably preparing me soup or something-

Lumine.. is not here.

The sudden cold realization that my lover has been kidnapped.. taken away from me by some pirate. He was overwhelmingly powerful and just when reinforcements arrived.. there was a large scale hilichurl raid.

I never felt so angry in my life. I wanted to let out some steam and annihilate every hilichurl I saw! I wanted to kill every single last one of them. I lost my composure at one point and I really thought that a genocide would solve the issue, but no.. I'm just losing my mind.

I was not allowed to see the acting grand master as she is extremely, extremely busy. That's still not going to stop me however.

The two G knights stand guard in front of Jean's office. Their faces are.. tired. Their usual smile and horse play attitude all withered away. I heard stories that the four H knights apprentice were annihilated as soon as the hilichurl raid started.

Those monsters were able to push into the city and there were some civilian casualties.

The two remaining G knights don't even say a word to me, but they use their spears to block the door.

"Sorry Amber.. now is not the time."

"This baron bunny will explode if you don't move. Please get out of the way."

"Does it matter, Amber.. maybe then I can cross the after life and see my friends again. I'd get to see my boy, my wife."

Just hearing those words.. his voice filled with despair and such sadness that no words can explain it. He gives me a melancholic look, but in the end.. he remains a knight and follows orders.

I don't think it's worth being s knight now. There are rules and restrictions that will hinder me and my process of rescuing Lumine.

"It's okay, you two.. Amber, come in." The acting grand master invites me into her office which now has been rearranged into a war room.

I can see the grand map laid out with many toppings to represent our numbers in strength.. which is very few.

There are many markings surrounding the city and those markings each represent a potential threat. Which means that the city is surrounded with many potential enemies.

"What is happening now, acting grand master.. What the hell happened?!"

"I'll keep it brief.. Lumine was taken away and right after.. a large number of hilichurls came rushing at us. It took everything we had to defend the city although.. there were twenty civilian casualties, twelve Springvale hunters died in battle, and the knights of Favonious.. sixty knights have fallen in battle. We reached a hundred casualties in one event, Amber."

"One.. hundred.." Back then.. when Mondstadt used to be ruled by tyrants the death toll reached the thousands.

When it finally became the land of freedom and peace there was a vow that a tragedy should never occur. Everyone is free to live here yet in one moment.. in one incident about a hundred people have died.

I try to catch myself a break and clutch my hand onto my heart. I can feel it beating and the pain inside my heart is sharper than that geo spike that impaled me. I love Mondstadt, the city, the people- we're all friends. I work so hard to protect them and make sure that everything and everyone is okay.
