you relished the feeling of the wind in your clothes and hair as your scooter swooshed past cars and lorries on the road. you drove quickly but carefully, mindful of the packs of food in the delivery box behind you. the gps map on your phone showed you that you needed to take a left turn in 600 metres, and you quickly switched lanes after making sure there were no cars directly behind you.
you were currently on your way to deliver a food order to someone whom you noticed to be a regular, seeing as you have been delivering food to the same address thrice just this week. sometimes he'd order for probably 20 people, and other times he would just order some side dishes or appetisers. either way, your boss had always sent you for deliveries, no matter who the customer was. you took pride in it though, she said that you were the fastest deliverer in town.
you chuckled at that memory. she had said that when you complained about being the only one doing the deliveries. the compliments and encouragement meant a lot to you too, considering that your boss and owner of the restaurant is also your mom.
when you pulled up to the familiar building, you turned off the engine of your beloved scooter and set your helmet at its handle, picking up the order you were supposed to drop off at this address. having memorised the address and unit, you absent-mindedly pressed the button in the elevator that would bring you to your customer's floor. before the elevator doors could close completely however, a hand shot through the gap in between, their fingers almost jabbing you in the face. you couldn't press the open button fast enough and winced as the doors closed on their forearm before automatically opening up again.
a man probably a year or two older than you stepped in, smiling sheepishly. you bowed politely at him in greeting and he returned the gesture, moving to press the lift button to his floor but stopping when he noticed it was the same one you were going to.
he's kinda cute.
you furrowed your eyebrows and mentally chided yourself.
you're working y/n, get a hold of yourself.
"i'm not going to follow you, if that's what you're thinking," the stranger joked, bringing you out of your thoughts.
you chuckled and shook your head. the stranger smiled and nodded, fidgeting and debating whether he wanted to introduce himself.
"i'm soonyoung by the way," he did anyway and thrust his arm out for a handshake.
you shook his hand and told him your name. you didn't know why you did but your gut told you he wasn't a threat, and your gut was always right. soonyoung had an innocent face, cute cheeks that were tinted pink from the cold and eyes that smiled whenever he did. the elevator dinged as he shoved his hands back into his coat and he tilted his head to let you leave first. you thanked him and got off the elevator, heading straight towards the unit you were supposed to go to.
"oh, you're delivering here?" you almost jumped out of your skin as you heard soonyoung's voice behind you when you stopped in front of the unit door.
"you live here?" you asked him, surprised.
you remembered that the person who'd always answered the door had a slightly different build than him, but you couldn't be sure. you never got the chance to take a good look at your customer whenever he received his order, always busy avoiding eye contact and fumbling with the plastic bags you had to pass to him every time.
"no, i just wanted to hang out with my friend," he explained.
your mouth formed an 'o' shape as you nodded in understanding and you moved behind him as he rang the doorbell. you heard the lock turn and when the door finally opened, you had to keep your jaw from touching the ground. you thought soonyoung was cute, but the man who answered the door, he was gorgeous.
his eyes widened a little when he saw the two of you, but he immediately relaxed when he realised it was his friend and saw the bags of food you were holding.
"ah hoshi-hyung, come in," his rich deep voice invited.
hoshi?
"nice to see you, vernon-ah," soonyoung replied and stepped in.
vernon. cute.
you snapped out of your trance when his attention was diverted back to you, making you suddenly aware of the weight you were holding. vernon smiled at you as you passed him his order, muttering a thanks as he passed one of it to his friend. you were too stunned to say anything, so you only returned his expressions of gratitude with a smile of your own.
soonyoung was smiling to himself, almost knowingly. he could tell by the way his band member rubbed the back of his neck while waiting for you to pass his change, the way he shifted his feet nervously, and obviously the fact that he'd order from your restaurant so many times that vernon fancied you, but was too shy to say anything. he'd never seen vernon like this before, and he'd have to admit, it was pretty endearing.
wow, i feel like a proud dad, soonyoung thought to himself. then an idea struck him.
"ahh, this must be the mystery cute delivery person you kept talking about!" he shrieked in mock realisation, teasing his friend.
both you and vernon froze at his exclamation and felt your cheeks turn a tinge of red. you quickly gave him the rest of his change, your fingertips grazing each others' hands as he grabbed them from you. vernon scratched his neck awkwardly and smiled apologetically.
"i'm sorry about him," he shook his head and chuckled.
"nah, you're good," you smiled, awkwardly rocking back and forth on your feet. "anyway, i gotta go. enjoy your meal!" you said to him in a hurry.
"bye soonyoung!" you craned your neck to look past vernon and waved at the other as he flailed his arms back in response.
you turned around to leave, your feet bringing you back the way you came from just a few minutes ago. you looked back to see vernon shake his head at his hyung as he went back into his apartment, probably embarrassed. you let yourself smile and the elevator dinged upon its arrival.
he thinks i'm cute. i'm going to think about that for days, you thought to yourself and smiled even wider, mentally jumping in joy as you returned to your scooter to go back to the restaurant.
