The beautiful sunrise

"I'M BEGGING YOU, PLEASE JUST LET ME TURN YOU INTO A VAMPIRE, EIJIRO!"

It hurt me to hear him yell that so desperately.

It hurt me even more to give my response.

"I'm so sorry, Katsuki, but... I-I can't accept."

"What...? No, stop messing with me!" Katsuki yelled. "I'm giving you a chance to live forever, you can't just say no to that-!"

"Katsuki... you do remember what I t-told you... right...?" I asked him. "I... I don't want to... live forever..." I sadly smiled. "I want... to be... free. As long as I exist in this world... I'll... never... be free."

"...I guess I can't change your mind." Katsuki whispered. "You're going to die, and... I'm going to be... stuck here, without you." He turned away from me. "God dammit... why's this world so unfair?! You were different than the others... you were so different from every other Human I've met. You made me remember things about myself from when I was Human. And I really..." He paused. "I... I love you. I don't want you to leave me, Eijiro."

"Confessing to your lover... on their deathbed... is really cliché, Katsuki." I weakly laughed. "Seriously speaking, t-though... I d-didn't want to... admit it, in case I was... wrong about it, but... I love you too."

I could tell I didn't have long.

"I wish... I could've seen the sunrise... one last time..." I whispered.

Katsuki suddenly picked me up out of the bed.

"You're going to." He told me. He walked out of the bedroom, carrying me with him. "I'll make sure you get to see the beautiful sunrise one last time, Eijiro."

"W-what...?" I asked, concerned for him. "But... y-you'll die...! You'll... burn up... in the sunlight..."

"I don't care." Katsuki told me. "There's no other Human out there like you. Even if I meet somebody in the future who's somehow identical to you, it won't be the same. You're perfect."

"Per...fect...?"

"I'll grant you your freedom." Katsuki said. "And I'll give myself freedom, too."

Katsuki carried me outside.

It had been such a long time since I'd properly seen the sun... it was so bright...

It was lovely...

Katsuki dropped to his knees on the grass, and layed me down so I was looking at the sunrise, my head resting in his lap.

"Thank... you..." I said, sadly. "Now... g-go back... inside... before you b-burn-"

"I already told you, Eijiro, I don't care. I'm prepared to burn up in the sunlight, we'll die together."

"Wh... w-why...?"

"Heh, that should be obvious." Katsuki grabbed my hand. "I can't live without you."

My vision was beginning to blur, but even still, I could see Katsuki was burning. His skin slowly turning to ashes and fluttering away in the soft breeze...

"Kat...suki... will we... see e-each other again... some... day...?"

"Yeah. Someday, in a better world, we'll see each other again." Katsuki softly smiled. "A world where we're both Human. A world where Vampires just... don't exist."

"That sounds... nice..."

"It really does."

"...thank... you... Katsu...ki..."

And soon after that...

I finally became...
