✿ Background ✿

Former Soldier Shaw dropped out of his duty after receiving news that his brother was diagnosed with cancer. Being aware that his parents alone could not pay for the therapy, medical treatments and other necessities. Wanting to spare his parents from financial ruin Shaw promised to find a way to pay for his brother's treatment.

The army back then had been working in cooperation with the laboratories, recruiting for them without ever fully knowing what happened to them. They later severed their ties with the lab and any other harmful facilities after journalists revealed what was done to them.

Shaw had joined a secret project that the lab sold off as trying out different fluids in order to enhance the soldiers that were listed as mutants. Shaw did not expect to be injected, cut open and his organs to be taken out and replaced. Given no information Shaw was only told that as long as he stayed the lab would pay for his brother's treatment. Shaw stayed. Shaw endured. Shaw survived.

Shaw is the first survivor of Project Phoenix. He escaped after staff members repeatedly taunted him and mocked him. Feeling triggered Shaw released his alter phoenix ego and caused the compartment he was held in to burn to ash. Beneath the ash were also the remains of other experiments, an act Shaw was never able to forgive himself for as he knew some of them were just children. After his escape Shaw also learned that the lab never paid for anything and left his brother to die a painfully short life and pressuring his parents into the financial ruin that led to his parents' death as well.

Shaw hid away, under a false name he tried to do everything in order to stay alive just for one more day. Even the shady business. Drowning his pain and nightmares in alcohol. Although that did little help. Over the course of fifteen years Shaw lived his life as "Scott Kirchner" and silently battled with the terrors of the night.

He was seeked out and pulled out of his bad habits after Asra Davenport and Everett Bane had found him. By hacking into the government and stumbling upon his file. Confused, Shaw tried to get rid of these children.Upon explanation that Shaw might be the only one to help Asra control her own Hellhound, Shaw was confused. 

Perhaps seeing a chance for himself in finding purpose again, step by step he allowed himself to become attached again. He cares for them both, protects them and some might say he acts like a guardian, a big brother and perhaps some kind of father figure.

Getting a grip back on his life, trying to control his alcohol addiction. He wants to try. He wants to survive. Again. For them.

Shaw is described as awkward, warm-hearted but he slowly trusts. He's afraid to grow attached again after experiencing his family's death. He keeps his concerns to himself and grows agitated when he people ask him more than once how he is doing. He's stern, protective especially over Asra, Asena and Everett and doesn't take it too kindly when they are put as weak, damaged or traumatized.

While in some aspects he might act cocky, Everett remarked once that Shaw has a great sense of humour. Dirty humour but humour nonetheless.

✿ Abilities ✿

A pyromaniac at birth Shaws flames changed colour through his process into becoming the phoenix. From a gentle red to a piercing blue. 

Controlling this element with sheer mind power, Shaw takes little to no effort to conjure walls and storms made out of purely fire. 

Although Shaw does not regenerate his skin and carries burn marks across his skin, he is able to resurrect himself.
