✿ Background ✿

Kim Byung-ho was born as the eldest son to a cruel king and his Naemyeongbu (Concubine of high rank living inside the palace). Because his wife failed to give a son before his concubine, his wife was framed for adultery and executed.
Byung-ho grew up under his father's strict and ruthless hands, being taught by the highest priest and the king's best advisors. Byung-ho is intelligent, quick to pick up new skills and knowledge. He found joy in reading transcripts and learning about his country's history and former royals.

When his father died under mysterious consequences, Byung-ho was the only living son in the palace and the only legitimate heir to claim the throne.

Reigning somewhere between 812 - 823, Byung-ho was married off to a princess as soon as the crown was placed on his head, fathering three children before turning 25.
During his reign Byung-ho had to make difficult decisions in the face of a civil war and neighboring kingdoms wanting to claim the throne. Seeing Byung-ho as weak and unfit to rule as his heritage was not "pure" under the eyes of other emperors.

Byung-ho didn't care and ordered raids and patrols on the borders, ordered prisoners to be taken should any I'll words be spoken about him and his rightful claim to the throne.
Hearing rumours about spies planning an ambush and possible assassination Byung-ho ordered his soldiers to turn the place, where the supposed spies were staying into ash and to let no one leave the scene alive.

What Byung-ho didn't know was that he burned down the home of priestesses, and caused the near extinction of a witch tribe.
One of the survivors, Yon was driven by rage and revenge as she saw her sisters killed and her home burned to ashes.

Byung-ho would never know that he destroyed a place of meaning, a holy place as his soldiers only reported the mission to be done.
Bringing peace back to his land Byung-ho finally felt as if he had everything under control again, something his father failed miserably at.

Yon would skip by the guards at night, in the darkest hour as the moon was clouded by clouds when she approached the emperor's chambers.
When Byung-ho woke up to the sound of the door being slid open, he expected one of his children, not a woman, halfway burned speaking to him in some foreign language.
Yun spoke curses about bad luck, despair and suffering, that there would be no end to his suffering not until he paid for his sins.

Bewildered and afraid, Byung-ho called for the guards. Yun was captured and brought to the prison cells. Laughing as Byung-ho told her he did not believe in such childish superstition.
If only he did.

As years passed, and Hae-Won grew older, Byung-ho didn't. No gray hair and no wrinkles would appear on his face.
The guards and the people grew suspicious of Byung-ho's everlasting youth. Byung-ho himself blamed it on his genes, shaking off the words of Yuns curse inside his mind.

As his eldest son turned of age, one of the priests inside the castle purposely ordered for the emperor's food to be poisoned, for he had reigned enough and the fact he didn't seem to age was beginning to unsettle everyone.
In fact, Byung-ho did die. Unaware that his own staff had tried to kill him. But as he woke again, the whole palace began to riot.

Byung-ho was forced to watch as his wife and children were killed, their "tainted" and "impure" blood staining the floor and walls of the palace while Byung-ho was banished.

And so, Byung-ho fled.
Returning to his home centuries upon centuries later as the palace had been turned to a temple.
Byung-ho works and lives there now as a so-called temple-keeper while studying the past, where he had gone wrong and who Yun had been.
He is desperate to die, to finally feel at peace and be reunited with his wife and children.

The people that come by to visit the temple think Byung-ho is some kind of tourist attraction as he is dressed in old traditional clothing and long hair that he keeps in a traditional hair style.

✿ Abilities ✿

Cursed with immortality, Byung does not age or show signs of aging.

If death should occur through injuries (for example because of a bullet) his body will heal on its own until his heart stops beating again.

The only way to lift the curse of immortality is by finding every remains of the priestesses he had ordered to be killed and give them the proper burial that was rightful for their position and religion.
