Regina POV

My phone in my pocket started going off like crazy. I reached in to see it was the sheriff trying to call me. I had his number saved due to some hardships I had faced this past couple of years. I slowly picked up the phone holding it to my ear. Something in my stomach dropped.

Hello Sheriff Fox. What can I help you with. I asked quietly.

Ms. Regina, I went by your house just now and you weren't there. Are you able to come down to the station?

Yes Sherriff I should be able to be there in 15 minutes. Is there anything I can help you with now? I asked with fear starting to tremble in my voice.

No. I will just wait until you arrive here. He stated with a sad voice.

Okay I will be on my way shortly. I just need to close up here at the store.

No problem. Ill be waiting for you. Sherriff Fox said over the phone.

I hung up and ran to grab my keys. I looked back at the booth of men. Crap ill have to send them away.

I walked over and told them I needed to go to the police station. Do you mind leaving. I am so sorry. Free coffee on me next time your in. I stated throwing down some free coupons.

No problem miss. Is everything alright? Dean stated with a sad expression.

I am not sure. I'm sure everything is fine. Nothing I cant handle. I stated a little taken back he had asked. No one really cared to ask if I was alright.

No problem. Here's my cell if you need anything. I would love to grab coffee with you. If your not opposed. Dean stated with a small smile.

I took the card and said thank you. I would enjoy that.

They men and Dean walked out and I followed locking up the store. I quickly got into my car and took off for the sheriff office. It was about a 10 minute drive. I kept thinking about all the different possibilities that the Sherriff would need to speak to me about. My anxiety was throw the roof when I pulled in. Sherriff Fox and his son Dean Fox were outside waiting for me to arrive. Sherriff Fox had been the Sherriff for as long as I could remember. I went to school with his son Blake he became a deputy a couple years ago.

I slowly go out of my car and walked up to them.

Sherriff, Deputy. What's going on? I questioned.

Regina do you mind if we do this inside? Blake asked.

I suppose. I stated with the fear and anxiety creeping in slowly as I followed them thru the doors and into Sherriff Fox's office.

As I entered they gestured me to sit down. I did. Blake was looking at me with the saddest expression. We had been friends since high school but now we were still friends at 24 years old. Nothing romantic had ever happened between us. Just two amazing friends.

Regina, I am afraid I have some very bad news. Sherriff Fox started.

What? What is it? I asked with my voice laced in fear.

Earlier tonight I am afraid your family was involved in a car accident. Sherriff fox said sadly.

I'm sorry what? I asked having my nightmare come true. Panic started to spread and I held it in.

Your family was heading to dinner when there car was hit by a drunk driver. I am deeply sorry but they didn't survive. Your father was barely hanging on when I got there. He passed shortly after giving me clear instructions for you.

Sherriff fox was like a second father to me. He was my dads best friend. They hung out all the time fishing and gaming. He trusted my father and my father trusted him.

I looked up at him to make sure he wasn't lying. His face said it all that he was telling the truth.

Again I am deeply sorry. Your father was my bestfriend and your family mean the world to my family and our community. I am here for you if you need anything at all. I have written down the message your father wanted me to give you for when you are ready to read it.

Thank you Sherriff Fox. I think I need a breath of fresh air. I stated and walked out of the office. As soon as I was outside I ran into the forest as fast as my feet would let me. Up into the mountains that I grew up in. As tears filled my eyes I stumbled and fell to my knees. As soon as my knees touched the ground I screamed in pain. The loss of my family was too great for me to contain anymore. If they were gone then I was alone.

I cried until I couldn't anymore. With the pain in my heart and head I feel asleep in the forest surround by trees and creatures that lurked with in them.
