"Ah, Duke. Good to see ya fella," an elderly Scottish terrier croaked, greeting the mutt at the front door. A great big smile on his face as he looked down at the smaller dog, Duke gave the Scottie a lick on the head. "Good to see you as always Patty."

"Who's the feller behind ya?" Patty asked, peering around Duke. A confused look appeared on the mutt's face. What in the world was the Scottish terrier talking about? Perhaps he finally lost his marbles. He looked behind his back anyway. Stepping out from behind some hedges, Max murmured, "Um... hi?"

"Max, did you follow me?" Duke asked. Max nodded his head quietly in shame. He lowered his gaze, he couldn't bear to look his roommate in the eye. Sitting down, Patty asked, "Friend of yer's Duke?" Looking down at Max, Duke answered, "He's my brother."

Max slowly lifted his head when he heard that. Shuffling his paws nervously, he mumbled, "I... um... I should head home. Sorry about this Duke." Waving his paw dismissively, Duke replied, "Max, you're fine, no harm done." Tossing his head towards Patty, he explained, "This here is my old neighbor Patrick, Patty for short." Wagging his stubby tail, Patty asked, "Wanna come in?"

"Uh, sure. Thank you sir," Max replied, shocked. Getting to his paws, he followed Patty and Duke into the house.
