IRAQ — 2023

"HOW MUCH LONGER UNIL THE UNI-MIND IS READY?"

"I don't know, Sersi!" Phastos responded.

Phastos was already stressed out of his mind as he worked on the uni-mind, the hologram he had made also alerting him that the emergence had begun. He immediately told Makkari to search for the location of the emergence.

Without any hesitation, Makkari sped out of the spaceship, now searching for the point of the emergence.

As the rest of the team grew panicked, like Phastos was, Ikaris and Sersi decided to leave the room for a couple of minutes.

After a few long moments, Ikaris returned with Sersi, wearing his familiar blue and golden suit. But, nobody seemed to have noticed him quite yet.

"I'm almost done with the uni-" Phastos told.

But, before Phastos could even finish his sentence, Ikaris shot lasers out of his eyes, aiming at the hologram.

This instantly grasped onto everyone's attention, causing them all to glare at Ikaris as if he was out of his mind, which he was.

"What!" Kingo exclaimed. "What are you doing?!"

"I've let this go on long enough."

"He lied to us!" Sersi told.

Everyone looked at Sersi, not being able to really believe what she had just said. How could Ikaris betray them when he has only been loyal all this time?

"No, he didn't." Kingo defended Ikaris.

"Ajak told me everything when we left." Ikaris stated.

"What?" Kingo mumbled.

"You were never going to help us stop the emergence." Phastos spoke.

"No," Ikaris said, "I only wanted to protect you from the Deviants."

"If Ajak wanted you to take her place," Sersi asked, "then why did she choose me?"

"He killed her." Druig claimed.

Unlike the rest of the team, Aziel was completely numb. He was speechless, unable to move or speak for a few moments. He just couldn't believe that Ikaris would turn against them, not like that.
