Chapter 6 : You're Missing The Point

"Fish and sticks, dear." Mrs. Beaver says, smiling warmly as she places a plate of said food in front of each of us.

"Is there nothing we can do about Mr. Tumnus?" Peter asks, ignoring the plate of food.

"Well... there's hope!" Mrs. Beaver smiles as she takes her place at the table.

"Yeah, there's a load full of hope... Aslan is on the move." Mr. Beaver says dramatically, digging right into the meal. Me and the siblings tastefully ignore the sticks.

"Who's Aslan?" Edmund asks, and Mr. Beaver laughs. We all look at him until Mrs Beaver puts a hand on Mr. Beaver's arm.

"Aslan....you silly little blighter.....you don't know do you?" Mr. Beaver asks and we shake our heads.

"Well we haven't actually been here very long." Peter says picking a stick up from the plate and studying it.

"He's only the king the whole wood, the true king of Narnia.... and he's waiting for you!" Mr. Beaver says happily. We all look at him in confusion.

"Waiting for us?" I manage to choke out, along with a piece of bark.

"You got to be joking! Look, Aslan's return, Tumnus' arrest.....the secret police! They're all happening because of you!" Mr. Beaver says, exasperation in his voice. Susan looks a bit offended.

"You're blaming us?" She asks, and Mrs. Beaver pats her on the arm comfortingly.

"Not blaming you dear, thanking you." She explains, and Susan looks even more confused.

"There's... a prophecy, When Adam's flesh and Adam's bone sits in Cair Paravel in throne the evil is over and done." Mr. Beaver explains and I smile at my food.

"You know that doesn't really rhyme." Susan points out, and Mr. Beaver sighs in frustration.

"I know, but you're missing the point!" He yells, slamming his paws down on the table.

"It's long been told that two sons of Adam and three daughters of Eve will appear to defeat the White Witch, and restore peace to Narnia." Mrs. Beaver says, and she looks at each one of us.

"And you think we're the ones?" I ask quietly, placing my cutlery back down on the table.

"Well you'd better be, Aslan's already fitted out your army!" Mr. Beaver says in a joking tone and I gape at him.

"I think you've made a mistake; we're not heroes!" Peter explains, standing up, his plate still half full.

"We're from Finchley!" Susan says, standing up beside Peter.

"I'm not from Finchley." I comment, but they choose ignore it.

"I think it's time we were going." Peter says to us, grabbing his coat and pulling it on, handing me mine afterwards,

"But what about Mr. Tumnus?" Lucy asks from her seat at the table.

"Sorry Lucy. It's out of our hands." Susan says, sadly, holding Lucy's coat out to her,

"Thank you for your hospitality." I mumble, struggling to pull my coat on.

"Ed, time to go- Ed?" Peter asks, before panicking and looking around him, before glaring. "I'm going to kill him." He announces as I finally manage to pull on my coat.

"You may not have to... Has Edmund been to Narnia before?" Mr. Beaver asks and me and Lucy exchange a look.

We stumble through the snow, and the blizzard, trying to catch up with Edmund desperately.

"Hurry up!" Peter yells, half-dragging Lucy through the snow as he staggers forward, half-blinded by the snow. We reach the top of the hill just in time to see Edmund retreat inside a castle's gate.

"Edmund!" Lucy shouts, reaching out, but Mr. Beaver tugs her down.

"Shh! They'll hear ya!" He warns, keeping a close eye on the castle. Peter starts to run after Edmund but Mr. Beaver and I grab him his coat.

"Get off me!" He says, trying to shake me and Mr. Beaver off. "We just can't let him go!"

"Don't you get it?! He's the bait! She wants all of us in there! To kill us!" I explain, and I glare at Peter. "Going after him would be a suicide mission, and we both know that."

"This is all your fault! None of this would have happened if you had just listened to me in the first place!" Susan shouts at me and I glare at her.

"So you knew this would happen?" I demand and she stumbles a bit.

"I didn't know what would happen!" She shouts back, I open my mouth to retort before Lucy stand in front of us,

"Stop, this fighting isn't going to help Edmund." She says, stepping between them and looking at us each in turn.

"She's right. Only Aslan can save him now." Mr. Beaver says, nodding towards her sadly. My face returns to its normal flat expression and my lips press into a line.

"Then take us to him." I say finally, and all can think is what a horrible mess we got ourselves into.

And how we should've never come here.
