Chapter 16 : Not A Tame Lion
The sound of horns reverberate around the room, as I passively straighten out my dress. My father returned home to London after speaking with Aslan, and there's this dull ache in my chest. I have no idea how long it will be until I see him again, and that makes me anxious.
Peter and Edmund smile at me encouragingly, and I give them a small smile back before the doors open and we five, the Kings and Queens of Narnia, make our way up to our thrones to stand in front of them, the crowd clapping and cheering until Aslan silences them.
"Bring forth the crowns!" Aslan orders and Mr. Tumnus and Mr. Beaver emerge, Mr. Beaver carrying the five crowns on two purple velvet pillows.
"To the glistening eastern sea, I give you Queen Lucy the Valiant." Aslan says, as Tumnus retrieves Lucy's crown from the pillow and places a silver crown that resembles leaves intertwining on her head.
"To the great western woods, King Edmund the Just." Aslan says, as another silver crown - this one looking like Maple leaves - is placed on Edmund's head.
"To the radiant southern sun, Queen Susan the Gentle." A golden crown like Lucy's is placed on her head with a warm smile from Mr. Tumnus.
"To the clear northern skies, King Peter the Magnificent." He says and another golden crown, like Edmund's, is placed on his head.
"And to the breathtaking winds of land beyond, Queen Ellanora the Healing." A crown like Susan's is placed on my head, and I smile at Mr. Tumnus before he retreats back to the crowd.
"Once a king or Queen of Narnia, always a king or queen." Aslan finishes and he smiles at us as the crowd begins to clap.
"Long Live Queen Ellanora! Long live King Peter! Long live Queen Susan! Long live King Edmund! And long live Queen Lucy!" The crowd cheers and the celebration begins.
*
I'm dancing with Peter when the sun begins to set, and I break away when the song ends and walk over to the balcony, watching as Aslan walks across the beach, I blink and he's gone.
"We'll see him again." I hear Lucy say, but I don't turn. She comes and leans on the balcony with me.
"When?" I ask, and my voice is quiet.
"In time... You mustn't press him." She looks at me and smiles. "He isn't a tame lion..." I laugh lightly.
"No, he certainly isn't." I say and I sigh a little. "But he's good..."
I hardly realise Peter has replaced Lucy until he speaks.
"Here." Peter says, pulling a hankie from his person. "I think you need this."
I thank him and smile, drying up tears that I didn't realise were falling. I think I catch another glimpse of Aslan, but I brush it off.
Peter looks at me and leans down.
Our lips meet and we kiss as the sky burns red behind us.
