Chapter 14 : I Missed You
I don't know when, but I fell asleep curled protectively next to Aslan, my tear stained face stiff and tired, my heart tired and worn from hurting.
"We should go." Susan says, after shaking me awake and I rub my face, moulding it into a cold expression.
Promising that I would let myself get hurt like that again.
"I'm so cold." Lucy whispers, shivering and for a moment I bury my grief; I wrap my shawl around Lucy's shoulders as we walk away from the stone table.
I take one more look back at the Stone Table and Aslan's body, before I turn away, refusing to make myself feel anything.
Then a crack fills the air and I stop, before turning and looking back at the Table, seeing it broken in two; Aslan's body gone.
"Elleanora!" They yell as I barrel back down the hill, tears filling my eyes.
"What have they done?" Susan asks, and the sun breaks the horizon; Aslan stepping up on the broken pieces of the table, his fur and mane beautiful and perfect.
I smile and shake my head, tears falling from my cheeks and flying behind me, glistening in the morning light.
"ASLAN!" I yell, laughing, as I sprint back down to him. When I reach him I climb up on the stone table and throw my arms around him, my tears falling into his golden fur.
He chuckles and leans his head on my shoulder and the girls join me in giving him a hug.
"We saw the Witch, the knife." Susan says into his fur and he pulls back, smiling at us - can Lion's smile?
"If the Witch knew the true meaning of
sacrifice, she might have interpreted
the Deep Magic a little differently.
For she would know that if a willing
victim who had committed no treachery died in a traitors stead, the Stone Table would crack and death itself would begin to unwind." He explains, looking at us all."We sent the word that you were dead.
Peter and Edmund would have gone to
war." Susan said, brow crinkling."I knew you'd never truly be gone." I whispered, as I wrapped him to a hug, whispering into his fur before I let go.
"We have to help them." Lucy says and we all agree, Aslan nods solemnly.
"We will, but not alone. Now, climb on
my back. We have a long way to go and
little time to get there." We all clamber atop his back and he falters, and when he speaks I can almost hear him smiling."And you might want to cover your ears." The girls cover their ears but I refuse to, my wind whipping as he takes off running.
He roars and I smile, closing my eyes.
*
We arrive at the Witches castle and the girls shiver, though I don't find anything to be shivering about.
We begin searching the statues that litter the court yard, and Lucy, sweet Lucy, stops dead when she finds Tumnus' statue.
Aslan walks up beside her and breathes on him, I watch in wonder as Tumnus falls into Susan and Lucy's arms fully alive again.
"Susan this is..." Lucy introduces before Susan grins wildly, wrapping him in a hug.
"MR TUMNUS!" She laughs.
