Chapter 2 : It Was Really There

The next day, we're forced to stay inside as the rain pours relentlessly outside, like a large silvery sheet.

I am stretched out on the sofa, a book on my stomach, as Edmund excavates the underside of a chair and Lucy flips through a book. Susan and Peter's dictionary game is the only noise in the room, apart from the faint scratching from Edmund.

"Gas-tro-vas-cular." Susan says while Peter furrows his brows, thinking. "Come on Peter, Gas-tro-vas-cular." She's exasperated now, from repeating the word over 10 times to him.

"It's Latin." I say, trying to save Susan's sanity as I flip the page of my book noisily, she frowns slightly but looks down at the dictionary.

"Yes..." Susan sighs, and Edmund pulls himself out from under the chair, a frown on his face, leaning up on his elbows.

"Is it Latin for worst game ever invented?" Edmund smirks and the corners of my lips twitch, Peter lounges back on the sofa as Lucy jumps up, grabbing onto Peter's arm happily.

"We could play hide-and-seek!" Lucy suggests, shaking Peter's arm. He looks at me and Susan, I give him a very faint smile.

"But we're already having so much fun!" I drawl, flipping the page even noisier than before, making Lucy frown at me.

"Please, Peter. Please, Elleanora. Please!" She begs, whining as she nudges me with her other arm. Peter sighs before closing his eyes, a smile on his face.

"One. Two. Three." He begins and Lucy grins before cooperatively dragging me off with her. Lucy peeks her head into a curtained area, but Edmund budges in, pushing us out with a glare and a cold look.

"Get Out! I was here first!" He claims, I give him a glaring look and drag Lucy away.
We try a few door knobs on a floor I never knew existed. Peter's counting a faint echo, and one door swings open revealing a beautiful apple wood wardrobe. I walk over to it in wonder, running my hands over the wood before opening it and clambering in, Lucy hesitates by the door.

"Come on!" I encourage, a small smile on my face, encouraged by my smile she runs over and clabers in. I go to shut the door but Lucy says to leave it ajar, as one never closes a wardrobe when one goes in it, and we both step back. And we keep going back, past what seems to be a hundred warm, fur coats.

"My, This is a very big wardrobe." I say to Lucy and she nods knowingly.

"Yes and - AHHH!" She begins, tripping over my foot sending us both tumbling to the ground in a heap of sprawling limps and skirts.

Where there once was the bottom of the wardrobe there is now snow and fallen pine needles. I quickly jump up, brushing the snow off my skirt. I hoist Lucy up and we both stand in the place where we were once sprawled on the ground.

I see a beautiful lamppost, black in colour and covered in frost and snow, like everywhere in this place. I make my way to the lamppost,  running my fingertips over the cold metal. I walk around and Lucy follows, us both staring at it in wonder.

I hear a crack of branches, and I whip around, spotting a pair of cloven hooves. I push Lucy behind me as she runs behind the lamppost.

"Agh!" We yell, Another voice joining our chorus. I look around and spot several brown paper covered parcels, someone, or something, has dropped it's parcels. A man with goats legs peeks out as I pick up the first parcel.
