Already dreading the day, I dragged myself out of bed and got ready for work. As my coffee brewed, I checked my reminders.Today was the day that the new interns walked the halls. Yay. I luckily don't have an assigned intern. I mean it's practically babysitting at first, but once they find their footing it'll hopefully be smooth sailing.
Sailing, speaking of sailing I need to check my asshole of a brother. Leaving him alone in a bar with that woman might've been a mistake, especially after what happened in New York.
Taking my coffee, I call him just to see if he's okay.
The dial tone ends as I gather all of my things and head out the door. "Just calling to see if you're alive you know, with you sleeping with a random woman that you met a bar. If you were murdered then just say that, stop dawdling. But if you're angry that I left you for dead, then I will write you a great eulogy to make up for it." I leave as a voicemail.

As I walked into Seattle Grace, my doofus of a brother bumps into me, on purpose mind you, and starts rambling about his night in detail. Which I really wouldn't like to start my day with hearing. "Please, I don't want to know about your broad strokes. Okay, she should've slaughtered you." I said as we approached the desk to grab my patient files. "She did slaughter me." I laughed at that. "Okay, whatever man, can I have my charts please?" I asked the nurse at the desk. "If you're jealous then just say that." he said referring to the voicemail I left as he grabbed his charts as well.
We went our separate ways, but I wanted to check out the new interns first.

"Each of you comes here today, hopeful, wanting in on the game. A month ago you were in Med school being taught by doctors. Today you are the doctors. The seven years you spend here as surgical residents will be the best and worst of your life. You will be pushed to the breaking point. Look around you. Say hello to your competition. Eight of you will switch to an easier specialty. Five of you will crack under the pressure. Two of you will be asked to leave. This is your starting line. This is your arena. How well you play... that's up to you."
The interns disbanded and I went to my first patient of the day in pediatrics.

"Dr. Shepherd. Hi, my name is Dina Taver, and I have been assigned to be your intern." she said. "I shouldn't have interns, but I'll need to check it out later. Um, in the meantime, can you check on my sickle cells patient in 3567? Make sure her oxygen levels are in the right areas." I said as I looked at my patients' overnight files.
"Yeah, sure thing!" she said going back to gossip with the other interns. "Today, Dr. Taver and inform me of any concerns that you might have. Make sure to check that the IV isn't clotting as well. Also, remind her to walk around the halls. While you're at it, take her to her morning x-rays. Matter of fact, here is a list of all of my patients. Take them one at a time to their scheduled x-rays." I said wanting her to feel at least some pressure. I can't have the interns relaxing; I'll get jealous.
"Right away, Dr. Shepherd."Dina said while clenching her jaw. Sorry kid, rules of the jungle. Everyone has their job.

"Alright, it looks like you're healing well from the procedure."I said after checking out my patient's incisions from his last surgery. I looked to the parents, "Everything is healing well, and recovery time should be a little over a week. Any questions?""No, but thank you Dr. Shepherd."His mother said graciously. "It was no problem at all, Mrs. Crawford."
After I left the room, I was suddenly being paged 911 to a room. Forgetting the elevator, I ran down to the third floor using the stairs.
