After Meredith walked off, most likely to the bar across the street, we were left with a bit of an awkward silence. "So, I'm gonna go check on Webber, or something." Y/N muttered out needing to get out of this weird situation. Derek looked at him with eyes that screamed 'we'll talk later' to which Y/N hoped would come at a later date, or never.

While he walked off, he could hear the tense whispers coming from pair start up. Addison's confident persona shined through even when Y/N knew of the anxiety behind it. The faster he walked away, the faster he could forget about it.

Y/N entered Richard Webber's room to see him scribbling in his journal. "Hey, Doc. Looks like the surgery went well." His friendly tone seemed to surprise the chief.

"Shepherd, How was your day off?" The chief inquired.

"Pretty easy, I have to schedule some lectures for a few universities soon. But imagine my surprise when my sister in law called me to pick her up from the airport because she's gonna work a case here." Y/N wasn't angry at Webber for calling Addison in. You gotta do what you gotta do, especially as chief, but he was allowed to reserve some shock.

"I made a call that was necessary." Webber then shifted the focus of the conversation, "Since I'm in recovery, I'll need you working with Addison on the TTS case that she was called in for."

"Understandable, but I really need to focus on my department and pediatric cases more, sir. I've been gone for a day, and I haven't even checked on my lab yet. Oh, I hope they didn't run my baby into the ground. But Ms. Shirley was here today, and she always takes the reigns when I'm not there or swamped with surgeries. In fact, she's a really sweet old lady-"

"Shepherd!" Webber called out, putting an end to Y/N's rambling.

"Yeah?"

"Stop."

"Sorry." He looked down at his hands and twirled his fingers.

Before the silence could get awkward, Addison came in and took at the foot of Richard's bed. "Surgery went well, it seems." She started. " I do have to tell you both about when I had to birth a baby, and the family that came with it."

Y/N immediately perked up in his seat, ready for a story time. "Alright, so this was just a standard birth. I'm talking, the vitals were perfect and nothing went wrong. Something that most mother's dream of. But the family was chaotic. The mom was an only child and so was the husband. So this was the first grandchild of both sides of the family. The patient's mother was there and so was the husband's. Every single time a monitor beeped, everyone started freaking out."

Both Webber and Y/N were listening intently.

"One grandmother was giving breathing exercises and then the other would always make a snarky comment that started an arguement. The two were just constantly at each other's throats. It got so bad that they were swinging their purses at each other like the old lady from that Madagascar movie." They all started laughing at this.

"So, the nurses took them out of the room, but you could hear them from the waiting room still. And we thought that taking the ladies out the room would help the environment, but the husband was even worse!" She told them which made them laugh again.

Then Derek entered which made the light environment awkward.

"Well, I will be back in the morning to report for duty, and you need to get some rest." She kissed Webber's forehead and then made her exit.

"I'm her ride, so see you in the morning." Y/N followed after Addison very swiftly. He needs another day off already.

He met Addison at the entrance of the hospital where she was reading a magazine. "I thought that you would've at least checked up on your lab while we're here." She said shocked to see him this fast already.
