As I prepare for my night shift at the hospital, I can't help but feel a sense of responsibility weighing on my shoulders. The quietness of the hospital at night is both calming and eerie, knowing that anything can happen, and I am the one responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients. I double-check my supplies, ensuring I have everything I need for the night ahead. It's crucial to stay organized and prepared, especially during the overnight hours when help may not be as readily available. As I put on my scrubs, I mentally prepare myself for the tasks ahead. I remind myself to stay alert, focused, and compassionate toward every patient that comes through the doors. The night shift can be challenging, but it's also when patients often need the most care. I take pride in being a part of a team that works around the clock to provide excellent care and support to those in need. With a deep breath, I head towards the hospital, ready to take on whatever challenges the night may bring.

"You didn't stop for breakfast?" Derek asked me. "No, I overslept. Couldn't sleep because my phone would not stop giving me notifications on Nancy's upcoming party. Fucking Nancy, fucking with my sleep." I mumbled.

"Don't give your enemy power over you," Derek said laughing. "And lucky for you, I bought an extra breakfast sandwich." He said with a knowing tone. This man knows me like the back of his hand. Thank God.

"I'll give it to you later. Or I can drop it off at your office." He said as we approached Meredith.

She was entering the halls undoubtedly heading to check on her patients.

"How's your day been so far, Sunshine?" I asked while draping an arm around her shoulders.

"It can be better.", she responded.

"But it could also be worse," I said while trying to brighten her mood.

"Stop being so positive." She said to me. "You're here early." she said looking towards Derek."

"I thought I'd buy you breakfast before your rounds," Derek said while seemingly chasing after Meredith.

"I've already eaten." Meredith dismissed.

"What did you have?" Derek asked while looking like a kicked puppy.

'The man is whipped.' I thought while following their every move. A bit hypocritical, but I'm the Better Brother. Therefore, everything I do is perfect and within reason.

"None of your business." Meredith swiftly answered Derek's question.

"Are you a cereal person?" He pressed on. "Straight out of the box? Or are you all fruit and fibery?" He continued while walking backward facing her. "Pancakes? Do you like pancakes?"

"I do!" I jumped into the conversation while watching him fail miserably to get her to answer his incessant rambling questions.

"No one asked you." He said dismissively. 'Fine, then I'll take my precious ass somewhere where it's wanted.' I thought.

"Fine." Meredith gave in to his constant need for conversation with her. "Leftover grilled cheese. Curiosity is satisfied?" she asked sarcastically. "And I value your opinion very much Daydream."

"It's nice to be appreciated," I said making faces at Derek.

"That's sad. It's Pathetic. Both of you." He said throwing a pointed look at me specifically.

"A good day starts with a good breakfast." he droned on.

"Look, I'm not being seen with you in this hospital," Meredith said. 'Why not? I'm handsome, charismatic, generous, helpful, hot, sexy, the Better Brother, the Hotter Brother, the Best Shepherd overall. She wasn't talking about me.'
