I pull up to my brother's trailer to give him a ride to work like always. His car isn't here though. Where the hell could he be? Oh, Meredith's place I bet. I can't believe he stood me up. I guess it's only fair that I eat the breakfast that I bought for him. Silver linings.

It took me a second to realize that I couldn't smell the coffee or the breakfast sandwiches. Aw hell, the flu is spreading throughout the hospital, and I am catching some symptoms.

I get out of my now-parked car and see the interns walking into the building. "Good morning! Everyone!" I greeted them with a mix of 'Hellos' and 'Good Mornings'.  I took a deep breath in, and no, I still couldn't smell the relief coming from the staff that was on the night shift. Nor can I smell the dread coming from the incoming dayshift.

I don't have any other symptoms though, so maybe I'll just wear a mask and gloves as a precaution. I can't be too careful, especially since I'm always around at-risk kids.

I was doing pediatrics all day, and I trusted that the lab techs had everything under control. If not, they knew to page me.

"This is Dr. Y/N Shepherd, he'll take care of you guys, and trust me: You're in good hands." A nurse introduced me to a family of two parents and a little girl.

"Hi!!" A small voice said to me. "Well, hello sweetheart. What's going on?" I greeted her, then switched my focus to her parents. "Her foot constantly twitches, so we took her to the county hospital, they took a CT scan, which showed a brain abnormality." The mother explained.

"See my foot?" Jamie, the little girl, asked me. "Yes, I see it. We'll take care of it." Jamie then took my clipboard out of my hands and pointed at her name. "That's me?" She asked. "No, baby, give the doctor back his clipboard." The father said to her.

"Oh, it's fine. Here, you can hold my light." I turned the light on from my light pen, and she excitedly reached for it. "I'm a doctor!" She squealed excitedly. "Yes, you are!" I said with just as much excitement.

"I'll page my brother, he's a neurosurgeon here. We'll put our heads together, find the solution, and come back to tell you what we know." I explained. "Alright, thank you." The parents said in sync.

As I exited the patient's room, I was met with George O'Malley. "Dr. Shepherd! Dr. Bailey sent me your way; said you needed an intern." I did not, but the more the merrier and George is good company. "Okay, well I just briefed an exam with my patient, Jamie Hayes, she's 2 and having seizures from a brain abnormality. I need you to get the CTs from the county hospital, Hunt down Derek, send him here, make sure the patient and her family are comfortable, and word of warning; that little girl is very social. I need to check on my lab, let me know when Derek comes." I explained while rambling.

"Will do, Doctor," George said as I walked away.

I came back to Jamie's room after George paged me. Walking in, I saw Derek giving her a neurotic exam. He was checking her reflexes currently with the reflex hammer. When he was done, Jamie grabbed it. "It's not lipstick." She spoke. "No, it's not," Derek said. I looked over to see George blowing up a glove like a balloon.

"How are the MRI scans?" He asked George.

"You said CT," George replied, dumbfounded.

"And now I'm saying MRI."

"It's available."

As the parents were asking Derek questions, I focused on Jamie. "You're a princess, Jamie. Everyone's at your beck and call." I said which made her giggle. "I know."
